HARRY FRANCIS LESSARD
Surrounded by his family, Harry, our beloved husband, Dad and Gramps, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the age of 86 years. Although our hearts are broken, he left us with a lifetime of fond memories and lessons learned that will always make us smile, sometimes laugh out loud and be grateful.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean (nee Kozlowski), his daughter Susan (Rick Friesen), granddaughter Danielle, grandson Alex, and his daughter Michele (Brock Brown), and granddaughters, Holly and McKenna. Harry is also survived by his sister Thelma Miller, and brother Roderick (Denise), sister-in-law Grace, several nieces and nephews, and many valued friends.
Harry was predeceased by his siblings, Ken, Artie, Tommy, Dorothy and Lilly.
Harry was born in Winnipeg and was raised in the West End. Dad grew up playing baseball, hockey, and pool while enjoying good friends and a close relationship with his youngest brother Rod. Dad came from a large family with very little, but, it was through these humble beginnings and the dedication of his mother, that he learned the importance of being a loving, honest, hard-working and self-reliant man devoted to his family.
Harry was the love of Jean's life and he would move mountains to bring her happiness. To his daughters, Dad was "mighty". Dad did whatever he could to make our dreams and wishes come true and what he couldn't do for us, he passed along a little bit of that "mightiness" so we could do it on our own. Now with families of our own, Gramps was each of his grandchildren's biggest fan and supporter, celebrating in all of their achievements.
Harry started his career at a young age in the payroll department at Burns and Company. He later went on to become an accountant and work at Pioneer Electric, finishing his long working career at the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission where he retired after over 20 years in the accounts department. Throughout his working career, Harry most enjoyed the many treasured friendships he made along the way. Dad liked to sprinkle a good dose of humour into everything he did.
Harry enjoyed over 25 years of retirement travelling with Jean all through Europe, as well as visiting their favourite destination, Maui. Dad continued to be the family "fix-it-man" in his retirement, but his favourite pastime was always golf. Dad found his special place and met many new friends at Kingswood Golf Course.
A celebration of Harry's life will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. in Winnipeg.
