FAY WALKER
November 30, 1939 - August 22, 2019

Sometimes it's hard to say good-bye to someone we love. We did not want to say good-bye to Fay this soon, however cancer took over and she left us Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Riverview Health Centre with her son Curtis by her side.
Fay was predeceased by her parents, her sister Gloria-Jean, her brother-in-law Ron, and Speed, the love of her life.
Fay was born November 30, 1939 to Nea and Larus Hvanndal in Piney, Manitoba. She was the second of four daughters. Fay had great memories of life on the farm with sisters, Donna and Enid. She spoke fondly of the freedom she enjoyed throughout her childhood, playing on a swing, in their tree house and roaming the fields.
Her love of music began early watching her Dad play violin and the guitar and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on a battery powered radio. Fay and her sister Enid learned to play guitar and sing together to the old country songs.
Fay left the farm to work in Winnipeg. A few years later she met and married Terry McLachlan and they had two children before going their separate ways.
It was Fay's love of music that drew her to a local entertainer named Speed Walker. They were so in tune with each other musically, it was a joy to watch them together. Years later they married. Between them they had six children. Fays', Landis and Curt (Michelle) Speeds', Kevin, Kerry (Elaine) Kelly (Rhonda) and Cheryl (TJ).
Fay was a prolific song writer. She had 57 songs recorded by various artists. Her songs have been heard all over the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Sweden and Australia. Fay never stopped writing.
After Speed retired they enjoyed going on road trips all over Canada and the U.S. One of their favourite pastimes was attending yearly Country Music weeks all across Canada.
Through the years the family grew to include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fay was a special Aunt to niece Leslie (Doug) and will be missed by best friend Judy and musical daughters, Cindi and Laurie.
A celebration of Fay's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2019 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
A further celebration of Fay's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Piney Hall, Piney, Manitoba. Fay will join her love of her life Speed in the Piney Cemetery.
Fay will be remembered as the gentle, humble lady that she was and will be forever missed.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of CancerCare, Riverview Health Center and Palliative Manitoba for their compassionate care throughout Fay's journey.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I just received a message today from Fay's Daughter Landis, the 1st I heard of Fay's passing. Curtis & I were great friends through High School, and Landis & I dated for a few years as well. I was always welcome at the Walker house. Both Speed & Fay were like second Parents to me. My favourite memories were of the Jamborees that they hosted in their basement in Valley Gardens, where I grew up. All the local musicians, and friends gathering to sing & play. I even got to sit in on the drums on occasion. Speed's version of My Woman My Wife would always bring tears to my eyes. Fay, you were the kindest sweetest woman I ever met. I will cherish the memories we shared. I love you, and will miss you. My condolences to the entire Family, especially Curt & Landis. • Fay's son Curtis , was a friend of my son Wayne when they were teenagers when we lived in Valley Gardens. I later sadly met her at CancerCare where I worked. She has lived a long time after being diagnosed with Cancer I am so happy to learn. She was such a lovely, quiet, talented, and unassuming lady. She talked so lovingly about her beloved son Curtis , when I met her at the clinic. How hard it must have been for him, to see his beloved mom pass away. I am so sorry for him. We used to go and see her husband Speed performing at the pubs. He as well was a talent lost too soon like Faye. • Such a beautiful and talented woman; inside and out. Fay and Speed were so encouraging and supportive to new singers and musicians in the 80's and continued throughout the years. Their house jams were epic with warmth, hospitality and love of music. (Fay's Hawaiian meatballs were famous) Fay's songs were beautiful - and often a tribute to her love for Speed (Thank You Babe - is one I still have in her handwriting). Another voice to add to the Angel Choir. Rest in the arms of your beloved Speed. - Posted by: Rae Anne Paxton (Acquaintance through music) on: Aug 31, 2019
