ALICE PHILLIPS
(nee PROSKIN)
May 6, 1924 - August 24, 2019

Alice passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years at St. Boniface Hospital on Saturday, August 24, 2019, with family at her side.
Alice was born in 1924 in Sandy Lake, MB. She moved from the farm with her parents and brother to Winnipeg following the Second World War, where she met and married Ken in 1948. She held various jobs during her working years at Canadian Wheat Board and Employment Insurance Commission and she and Ken also owned and operated a restaurant on Lipton Street. During her later years, she became a bowling enthusiast.
Alice was predeceased by Ken in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Bill) and Kim (Craig); her granddaughters, Dana (Frank), Jenna (Chris) and Kelly (Corey); and the lights of her life, her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon, Daniella, Violet, Penelope and Maxson.
Over the years, in addition to homes in Transcona and Lorette, Alice and Ken owned both a cottage at Falcon Lake and a condominium in Clearwater, FLA. Alice was always a very generous person as well as being an excellent cook and in each of her homes, she and Ken loved to entertain family and friends. Following Ken's passing, Alice moved from Lorette back to Winnipeg to a condominium, then an apartment, and finally Dakota House. Alice, being a very social person, made many new friends in all locations.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and excellent care during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is always appreciated.
There will be a private family graveside service. A celebration of Alice's life is to be held at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road, Winnipeg, on Friday, August 30, at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will be welcome to share their favourite stories about Alice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Charlene, Kim and families. Saddened to read of Alice’s passing. I have many memories when growing up across the street on Harvard Avenue in Transcona. Wanda and I are sorry that we will not be able to attend the gathering on Friday but will be thinking of you all at this time. • Our sincere condolences to you Charlene and Kim and your families. I, Vicki Lazaruk, am the daughter of Peter and Margaret Hnatuk of Sandy Lake. My father's mother, Effie Hnatuk (nee Rystephaniuk) and your grandmother Marie were sisters. I had the good fortune of renewing acquaintances with your mother, Alice, on a few outings via bus to South Beach in recent years. Alice was a wonderful lady! Many people walk in and out of our life. A few will leave a footprint on your heart. Alice left many footprints. - Posted by: Vicki and Len Lazaruk (cousin) on: Aug 28, 2019

  • What a very lovely lady! This woman had the spunk of a 24 year old. We would have so much fun on Thursday nights - this was entertainment night at Dakota House. She would dance in her chair - every time! One time we all held hands in her row and swayed and danced until she couldn't dance no more. I will miss her sense of humour and her enthusiasm. It was my pleasure that I got to meet this wonderful woman. Keep dancing Alice - we will miss you. - Posted by: Sheila Selluski (Front Desk at Dakota House) on: Aug 28, 2019
