HILDEGARD SEN
March 25, 1934 - August 27, 2019
Hildegard was born in Ratingen, Germany to Louisa and Auguste Floercke. She was predeceased by her husband, Sunil Kumar Sen, in 1978.
She will be lovingly remembered by her life partner, Harold "Skip" Kane; her children, Achim, Robin, Anita, Michelle; and her grandchildren, Michael, Erica, Meaghan, Stephanie, Braeden, Danielle, Dominique, Caitlyn, Ava, Naia and Keawe.
Hildegard was a strong and courageous woman who moved to Winnipeg with her husband Sunil in 1961. In addition to being a devoted mother to her four children after her husband passed away, and a teacher, she went on to obtain her Masters degree in fine arts at the University of Manitoba and became an active member of the Manitoba Society of Artists. She has shown her work in numerous galleries throughout the city of Winnipeg. As well as being a dedicated supporter of the arts in Manitoba she was also an avid tennis player and nature enthusiast.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals at the St. Boniface Hospital MICU who offered great support and comfort to Hildegard, and her family during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Garry United Church.

I'm very sorry to learn of Mrs. Sen's passing. I grew up on Sandra Bay in Winnipeg and was friends with her youngest, Michelle. I had many happy times at her home playing and Michelle and I had countless sleepovers. I have fun memories of the time I was invited to go camping with them in the red van that she had at the time. My parents have a cherished painting she did of Crescent Drive Park that is one of my Mom's favorites. My sincere condolences to her family. Hildegard was our backyard neighbour on Sandra Bay for 38 years. We got to know her well and enjoyed discussions about her artwork, gardening, and her love of physical activity. She was a great neighbour and we will miss her warm smile and friendly conversations through the thick shrubs which separate our properties. Sincere condolences to her family. - Posted by: Terry and Diane Aseltine (Neighbour) on: Sep 06, 2019

I remember Hildegard being a very keen tennis player who was direct but always finished everything with a smile. I was also always inspired by her dedication and perseverance on the court despite having limited mobility (playing with two knee braces!). Not a surprise when one considers everything else she achieved in life. I will remember her fondly, - Posted by: Joseph Langan (Tennis community) on: Sep 04, 2019

Hildegard was an honoured member of our Sketch Club for over 30 years and contributed her artistic talents to our Annual Juried Exhibitions for as many years. Personally, her and I spent many hours life drawing together and I know she was frustrated not being able to spend more time drawing due to health concerns over the past year. I knew her as a painter, printmaker, and all around artist and her artwork told us about the places and people she loved—and it was beautiful, thoughtful work. She recently won the Brian Hyslop Award for Pastel for her work, Across from St Vital Park, in the 2019 Manitoba Society of Artists’ Exhibition which is still showing at the Mennonite Heritage Gallery until September the 14th. I will be publishing an article about Hildegard in our upcoming Newsletter so if there is anything else you would like to share about her with our membership, I would be happy to add it. I was saddened to hear of Hildegard's passing. i played tennis with her at WLTC and remember her as a gentle and kind lady but she was cagey on the tennis court! When I first started playing tennis at the club as a novice, she was patient and encouraging and I enjoyed being on her court. Please accept my condolences on the loss of a beautiful, strong woman. - Posted by: Bev Lesiuk (tennis community) on: Aug 31, 2019
