On the morning of Thursday, August 29, 2019, following a long and courageous battle with cancer Beverley passed away peacefully at her home in Headingley, Manitoba, with family by her side.
Born May 11, 1952 in Winnipeg, Bev was the youngest child of Bernice and Stan Scott.
She is survived by her husband John Hirst of 30 years; sons, Christian (Courtney) and Cale Scott; sister Sheron Pickard of St. Albert, Alberta; brothers, Jerry and Garry Scott of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Bernice Scott.
Bev grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate in 1971. She attained a diploma in Child Care Services from Red River Community College in 1974 and spent several years in the child care field. In 1985 Bev obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1986 her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Winnipeg. In 1986 she began her career as a primary teacher. Bev taught at numerous schools in the Winnipeg School Division for over 28 years. The last 10 years she specialized as a Reading Recovery teacher, a position she thoroughly enjoyed until she retired in March 2014.
Bev's strength, hope, and fortitude was an inspiration to us all. She will forever be loved and missed and always in our hearts and prayers.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Shaundra Popowich and the Gyne Team of CancerCare Manitoba, and Health Sciences Centre staff for the excellent care and treatment Bev received.
A private memorial service celebrating Bev's life will be held in Headingley.
In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated.
