Born November 18, 1934 in Tring, England and passed away peacefully on August 24, 2019 in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Victor in 2013.
Stephanie, our mother, will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Steve (Louise), Alyson (Ray), Tony and Yvonne. Granny will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Shane (Chelsea), Robert (Christine), Lanza (Carmen), Aaron (Crystal) and Michelle, and her four great-grandchildren, Eva Stephanie, Alexandre, Kai and Aiden.
Stephanie and Victor were married on July 28, 1954. Mum went on to graduate from the Royal Manchester College of Music in 1955. Together in 1956 they started a new life in Canada with Dad settling into his new position at the Winnipeg Clinic and mother creating a wonderful home for her family.
Mother was a career mum with four busy children. She lovingly took care of the home and supported all of us in all our endeavours. We all have great memories of the summers Mum spent with us at the cottage at Tall Timber while Dad was on call. Once the children were older, she worked alongside Dad and with help from the Elk's Club establishing the Mobile Hearing Program, which proactively took hearing testing to all the elementary schools in Manitoba. Mum also enjoyed working for several years in the Circulation Department at the University of Winnipeg Library.
Throughout her life, Mum continued her great love of music and was an accomplished pianist / singer. She shared that love by teaching piano for many years. Her love of music extended to singing with the Sweet Adeline's, as well as playing the Alto Recorder with the Winnipeg Early Music Society. Mum was a lifelong knitter and later became a tremendous quilter. Mum made each member of the family a beautiful personalized quilt and we will always treasure them.
Mum had a great love of nature and animals, especially dogs. We can't remember a time where there wasn't at least one dog in the house and sometimes as many as three. Mother's wish, in lieu of flowers, was for a donation to be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
A service and Celebration of Life will be held September 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.
