JAMES ROBERT (BOB) HODGSON

Saddened by the loss but in celebration of a beautiful life, the family of James Robert Hodgson (Bob) announce the passing of a dearly beloved husband, Da, and Granda.
Born a Geordie lad in England in 1939, Bob lived an exceptionally rich life led by his kind heart and great sense of humour. He walked the moors, and later dog-sledded, canoed, and explored Canada's landscapes. He loved the snow and cross-country skiing with his darling Kathleen. Bob's passion for music resonated throughout his life; whether he was working in the coal mine as a pit lad or gardening in the backyard, he was always ready with a song in his beautiful voice. Our Da was the kind of man who would warm a stunned bird in his hands and gently release it back when it was ready. He showed his love in countless ways: preparing weekly family dinners, lovingly carving gifts of woodwork, a hand to hold in life's wobbly moments, and a thousand quiet acts of tenderness.
He is deeply missed by his beloved wife, Kathleen Crowley; and loving daughters, Sarah and Heidi. Bob adored his grandson Thomas and gave so much of himself as a Granda. Bob loved his dear Geordie friend Al Thomson like a brother. He is also survived by his children, Kate and Chris. Bob was surrounded by many loving friends.
In honouring Bob's wishes, there will be no service; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I'll gently rise and softly call,
good night and joy be with you all
(The Parting Glass, 1605).

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • With special thoughts for today : Dearest beloved Bob Farewell to you, my love, my time is almost done. Lie in my arms once more until the darkness comes. You filled all my days, held the night at bay, dearest companion Years pass by and they're gone with the speed of birds in flight. Our lives like the verse of a song heard in the mountains. Give me your hand and love and join your voice with mine. And we'll sing of the hurt and the pain and the joy of living. Miss you so much me Geordie lad. - Posted by: Kathleen J Crowley (your beloved wild strawberry ) on: Nov 25, 2020

  • I have some of my favorite childhood memories spent with my Uncle Bob. Always up for an adventure and taught me so much about embracing and loving life. My father adored him and we will forever be grateful that despite all else my uncle Bob made time to visit and reminisce with my Dad during his last days which filled him with love. He will be missed by us all and our hearts go out to my cousins (his children) Kate and Chris and his grandkids M and W. Forever in our hearts. - Posted by: Sarah Wake (Niece) on: Aug 03, 2020

  • My brother Bob looked after me as a little girl just starting school and looked after our mother Francis as she was dying with TB. No matter what comes your way nothing can destroy love. So much distance between us and so much time gone by. We remember when Bob followed us out to Winnipeg We returned Bob stayed. I am your sister Bob and I loved you.
