HUW DAVIES
Born January 26, 1959 in Oxford, England, Huw began life in the Cotswolds. His family immigrated to Canada in 1966, settling in Brandon, MB, and finally moved to Winnipeg in 1967. Huw grew up on Scotia Street and attended West Kildonan Collegiate.
Huw worked for Shoppers Drug Mart for most of his career where he made many great friends at the various stores he managed. When he wasn't working, Huw enjoyed listening to music, reading, working in his garden, flying kites and playing with his greatest love, his granddaughter Ruby.
A self taught musician and guitarist, Huw had an incredible talent when it came to playing and writing music. Over the years, he shared his talent by creating special songs, playing gigs around town and recording albums with his bandmates.
Predeceased by his mother Shirley, he leaves behind his daughter Robyn, granddaughter Ruby; his father Derwyn, his siblings, Michael, Dylan (Lisa), Rhiannon (Dennis), Gwyn, Dan (Jennifer), Mari (Robert), and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A special thanks to the staff on Cornish 5 at the Misericordia Health Centre for the care and compassion you showed my dad every day.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m., at the Green Brier Inn, located at 1611 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Dad, may you watch the corn dance in the wind forever. Love you always, your Robyn.

As there are many memories of Huw over the years, the one that comes to mind was the year Selkirk Shoppers challenge some of the other Shoppers stores to a baseball tournament. Our store did very well in the tournament-had lots of laughs and Huw was so kind to invite us to his home that was nearby. He will be missed! Knowing Huw from as back as our school days, I've never heard him say a bad word about anyone. Even back then, while the rest of us were complaining about this or that, Huw would just listen, then slightly turn his head to the side and down and give that little smile of his. He was so comfortable in his own skin that complaining seemed beneath him. He was one of the most subtle, but funniest guys you would ever want to meet. He always had the best comebacks, and was never afraid to joke about himself. No doubt one of the sweetest, kindest people I have ever known. This old planet needs more people like Huw Davies. If there is a place we go when we pass, it is now a better place than it was before accepting Huw. We love you, Buddy! - Posted by: Darryl Ludwig (Friend) on: Sep 10, 2019

My sincere and deepest condolences to your family. I’d heard Huw was doing so much better; such a gift near the end of one’s life, and held on to hope for his father and for John (Gwyn). May the memories you each hold individually in your heart bring you comfort in your grief. I love you so John. ❤️❤️❤️ - Posted by: Wendy Norbom (Friend of Family) on: Sep 08, 2019

A beautiful tribute to a man so loved by many. I was sadden to hear of his passing much too young but I too know how difficult it is to loose a brother. Huw and I along with his sister Rhiannon whom I coached in volleyball (an outstanding player) attended West Kildonan Collegiate together. I remember Huw’s long blonde ponytail and gorgeous blue eyes, he was kind and a very gifted musician. My condolences to the entire Davies family may his spirit and light soar through the Heavens. Wishing you all peace and strength at this difficult time. - Posted by: Donna Strazewski (High school acquaintance ) on: Sep 06, 2019

I will always fondly remember Huw getting everyone flying kites at a Davies summer family and friends get-together, and having great laughs last Christmas. A lovely tribute here to a man who will be very much missed. - Posted by: Bonnie Hallman (Family friend) on: Sep 04, 2019

The tribute to Huw is beautiful. In Brandon, the Davies family was such a big part of our family's life; my brother Andy and I especially knew Mike, Shirley and Derwyn, but we spent time with all your clan. I remember my mother saying as she grew quite old and talked about the deaths her brothers over the years, that it doesn't matter your age, it still hurts to lose a sibling. My love to you all, siblings, father, children, nephews and nieces and grandchildren. Rita Moir - Posted by: Rita Moir (Family Friend) on: Sep 04, 2019

Huw was a very kind and loving person who had a zest for life. Even as a young child, Huw had a quiet confidence and always willing to embrace new experiences. I will miss his great wit and ability to see the humour life offers, the Lama in the window protecting the vehicle was the last time we laughed our butts off while sharing a beer.
