HELEN MARGARET (PEGGY) COVE
(nee WESLEY)
February 10, 1923 - September 1, 2019

After 96 years of a wonderfully full and joyful life, Peggy Cove (Helen Margaret, nee Wesley) passed away on September 1, 2019.
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother leaves behind her loving husband Clare of 71 years; her daughters, Lois, (Fred) Duval and Donna, (Bobby) Cram; along with three grandchildren, Trafford (Brianna) Crump and Kalynn Crump and Kelsey (Nick) Woelcke; plus four delightful great-grandchildren, George, James, Taggart, and Davinia.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Wesley; five brothers Andrew, Doug, Dick, Bob and Charlie Wesley; and her granddaughter Genessa Cram. As well, Peggy was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Stan and Bill (Marney and Lu) Cove; and niece Debbie Ruth.
Born February 10, 1923 on a farm near Carroll, MB Peggy grew up south of Brandon with her parents William and Margaret Wesley, who had emigrated from Scotland. Given the ancestral connection, she enjoyed trips across Canada and to Scotland, making lifelong friends through her daughter's highland dancing and her volunteer roles on the Manitoba Highland Dancers' Association Executive.
After graduating from business college Peggy met Clare while working in Brandon at the YMCA. They married in 1948 and enjoyed eight years living in Minnedosa where their two girls were born and long time friendships were made. A move to Winnipeg brought them new opportunities and they enjoyed travelling with friends and family. She continued to connect with friends made at the Grace Hospital Emergency department, after working there for 20 years.
After retirement, they found warmer climates for many winters down south. Peggy enjoyed a wee gamble, whether at the racetrack on occasion or a trip to the Casino. With many a lucky streak, she brought home numerous turkeys for Thanksgiving or Christmas, thanks to Tuesday night Bingo! Peggy loved sports and became an avid baseball player, five pin bowler and eventually a golfer. Thanks to daily trips to the gym in their condo well into her 90s, she was active and fit throughout most of her years. Her doctor reflected recently on her resilience in life and remarkable ability to bounce back despite a few falls and broken bones in later years. Hospital staff suggested her feisty nature was part of the reason for her longevity, which we all knew was thanks to Dad keeping her home with him for all her years. We all admire the depth of love and quality of life he gave her.
The family extends their sincere thanks for the amazingly attentive care from Dr. Pravin Mehta. Thanks also goes to the home care providers that touched her life and helped her to stay home, close to her beloved husband. And finally, thanks to the caring staff on 5 South at Victoria Hospital who helped make her comfortable in her final week.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you do something active to take care of yourself, help a friend in need or share some time or flowers with those unable to get out. A donation to a charity of your choice would also emulate what she and Clare were all about. Never wanting to be told what to do, Peggy would have loved to give you the choice of how to remember her!
A private celebration of life and interment will take place with family and close friends.
