WILLIAM SCOTT ROBERTSON
March 22, 1954 - September 4, 2019
Bill was a proud Charleswood guy. He grew up there with his parents and most favourite people, Ev and Don, as well as his brothers and lifelong golf partners, Jack and Tom. Bill met Susanne in Grade 10 and was smitten for life. They raised their wonderful children, Reagan and Sean, there and then welcomed Sean's wife Jillian and two beautiful grandchildren, Emma and Nash, into the family.
Bill became a chartered accountant at Coopers and Lybrand and was most proud of his work at Roynat. He enjoyed the art of the deal and maintained he'd never do business with someone he didn't like. As a result, he made lifelong friends with numerous colleagues and clients along the way.
Bill was a jock, excelling at curling and golf. He curled competitively for many years, but it was the team comradery that he enjoyed the most. The Granite Curling Club was near and dear to his heart. He was so proud to be made an honorary life member in July in recognition of his contributions to the club. Some of Bill's favourite times were golfing the famous links courses in Scotland - he would have loved to have been made an honorary Scot as well!
All that knew Bill, knew that he marched to his own drum - he was stubborn and opinionated, but he also had a very warm and loving heart. He was a loyal and generous friend and loved a good party! The Robertson household was open and welcoming to everyone, and home to many celebrations over the years. The boys at Sorrento's were like brothers and Bill treated them like family.
To Reagan and Sean - your Dad was so proud of you - while he may not always have told you, his friends will confirm that he always bragged about your many accomplishments and the all-round good people you have become.
Bill died very peacefully at home after struggling with cancer for almost a year. A huge thank you to Doctors Sutherland and Gordon, as well as Cindy, Larissa and the staff of the Health Sciences Centre H5 surgical ward for their wonderful care. To our amazing family, friends and colleagues - your endless supply of love, support, visits, rides, food and wine(!) has helped us get through, not only this year, but also Bill's last few years of health issues. Reagan, Sean and Jillian - thank you for being by our side through this journey, holding us up when we needed it and making us laugh when we needed that too - love you beyond words.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights would be greatly appreciated.
"Life is partly what we make it and partly what is made by the friends we choose."
