STEVEN PATRICK PONOMETS
June 21, 1949 - September 4, 2019
Steven was predeceased by his father, Stephen Ponomets Sr. and mother, Doris Gratton (Blanco), and brother Patrick.
Missing him dearly are his wife of 48 plus years, Victoria (Masyk); daughters, Stefanie and Melanie; and grandchildren, Ava, Hunter and Ian. We will cherish his legacy with many wonderful memories of love, laughter and colourful stories.
Steven grew up in the Weston area of Winnipeg and attended Somerset School, Hugh John MacDonald and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Steven was employed as a carman welder at CN Rail - Transcona Shops for 28 years. He developed lifelong friendships with coworkers who referred to him as 'Steve-O' and admired him for his work ethic and sense of humour. He took great pride in his years as a Master FreeMason and Khartum Shriner with the Drum and Bugle Corps.
Steven and his family enjoyed many summers at their cabin in Sandy Hook. He took many road trips across Canada with Vicki to watch their daughters play fastpitch.
Our family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Robin Sen for his many years of primary care and visiting Steven at Riverview. Special thanks also to Dr. David Peretz and his team at Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional and compassionate care. Of particular mention are all the caring staff of the 3East - Palliative Care Ward at Riverview who ensured Steven's final days were filled with comfort and dignity. We are forever grateful to Cory for coordinating Steven's admission there. Home care attendants Frank and Jonas provided Steven with great care while still at home and we are grateful for their cheerful visits.
As per his wishes, Steven will be cremated and privately interned with his father Stephen Ponomets Sr. in the Military Field of Honour at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. A celebration of Steven's life will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home lead by Officiant, Father Gerry Ward.
In lieu of flowers, online donations can be made to the Palliative Care Ward at Riverview Health Centre in Steven's honour.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)
Sending condolences to the family & friends of Steven. Although I had only known Steven for a very short time, he accepted being a "model" for teaching our bedside Ultrasound under the Department of Emergency Medicine, UofManitoba. His answer when asked if I could call him again - "absolutely - any time!" I was saddened to hear a month or so ago that Steven was at Riverview, and even more saddened to hear of his passing. May sweet memories be yours to hold dear to your hearts! May you rest in peace Steven. - Posted by: Jan (UofM Ultrasound Program) on: Sep 17, 2019
