On September 4, 2019, a beautiful fall day, with his entire family at his side, Paul peacefully and mercifully passed away at 70 years of age.
He faced all of his health issues with total determination and absolute confidence. He did beat cancer... unfortunately his body and soul were no match for the heart disease.
Paul was born on April 26, 1949 in Winnipeg, MB. Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 46 years, Bonnie (nee Mac Leod); his daughter Regan (granddaughter, Madeleine, son-in-law Robert) and his son / best friend Mitchell; sisters, Pat Basso, Judy Poole (brother-in-law Ken, nephews, Dan and Gord) and brother Tom Lenton (sister-in-law Andrea, nephews, Keith and Mark), brother-in-law Peter Stechishin (nephews, Allen and Doug).
He was predeceased by his mother Thelma and father Gerald, his sister Gale and brother-in-law Bruno Basso.
Paul retired from the Manitoba Geological Survey after 43 very proud years. Paul graduated from the University of Manitoba with his BSc as well as his MSc. His passion for geology was first and foremost in his professional field, which eventually became associated with his re-direction toward G.I.S. implementation to provide absolute accuracy with geological mapping of the Province of Manitoba. He thoroughly enjoyed science fiction, astronomy, classical music as well as poetry. Paul was an absolutely dedicated husband, father, extremely proud grandfather and mentor, who completely loved his many friendships with colleagues as well as personal friends. To state that he left too soon would definitely be an understatement as he had just begun to enjoy retirement!
There will be a family interment.
We gratefully request no flowers; instead please feel free to provide a charitable donation either to CancerCare Manitoba and/or the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation in his memory.
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives, but I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived. After all, Number One, we're only mortal."

- Quote from Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
