GAYLENE MURIEL CLAVEN
(nee SLATER)
December 30, 1943 - September 14, 2019
Left to lovingly remember Gay are her children, Dean and Stacy (Cameron); and her grandson Liam; along with her brother Ken (Eleanor); and many dear family and friends. Gaylene is preceded in death by her beloved husband Mel; and her cherished granddaughter Madison; as well as her brother Jack; and her parents.
Gaylene grew up in Teulon, MB. Gaylene's professional life began with her administrative position at Walter Woods where she was employed for several years before she and her husband partnered to open Speedee Mart Food Stores where she managed the bookkeeping. This flexibility allowed her to be a very involved parent, volunteering in her children's schools and activities and in her church. In her later years, she held part time employment with both Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and Sobeys. Gaylene was a social butterfly who was most happy in the company of others. She had a great sense of humour and developed many strong relationships with friends, who she regarded as extensions of her family. Over the past 16 months living at Riverview, Gaylene enjoyed BINGO, church and art therapy, and especially ventures outside to the zoo and in the courtyard at the fish pond. She will be sadly missed by many.
A celebration of Gaylene's life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Anavets Assiniboia, Unit 283, 3584 Portage Avenue, followed by a light reception.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Blom and the nurses and health care aides at Riverview Health Centre, who became an important part of Gaylene's life and showed her family genuine care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

Dean, Stacy and families, we were so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Sending you our deepest condolences at this most difficult time. We have great memories of both your parents and you as our next door neighbours back in the 70's and early 80's. - Posted by: Terry and Gale Gibson (former neighbour) on: Sep 18, 2019

I'm so sorry Dean and Stacy. Your family was always so great to me, and I am so grateful for the holidays and events I got to spend with your mom and dad. I loved Mel for his vibrance and energy and your mom for the love that she showed to friends and family alike. Your mom was a wonderful, loving person that made me feel like I was family too. I know that she is being welcomed into heaven by Mel and Maddie and she is able to breathe and have no pain anymore. - Posted by: Derek Schmidt (friend ) on: Sep 18, 2019
