MARY-ANNE ROBINSON
March 29, 1956 - Deloraine, Manitoba
September 16, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta

Mary-Anne Robinson beloved wife of Donald Robinson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the age of 63 years.
In 1974 Mary-Anne entered the Bachelor of Nursing program at the University of Manitoba graduating in 1978. In later years she completed her Masters of Science in Administration with Central Michigan University. Over the 40 years that followed her graduation Mary-Anne promoted change in the Canadian and international health care environments eventually becoming a senior health care executive. In 2006, she became Chief Executive Officer of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Mary-Anne was a recognized leader in nursing regulation in Canada: founding member and director of the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators; board chair and founding director of the National Nursing Assessment Service; an advisor to the board of the Canadian Nurses Association. Despite her hectic career Mary-Anne was devoted to her family and friends. As mother and wife she actively managed all aspects of the household. Design and home décor were one of her passions which lead to many home renovations. The results were warm family homes with eclectic accents. In the early 2000s, along with her husband, two children were adopted. She spent many hours at the kitchen table supervising homework and was very proud to see them both enter their first year of university this fall. As a planner she organized many vacations for both the immediate and extended family. No matter where she lived, each summer, a three week encampment, at the family cabin in southern Manitoba was guaranteed. Mystie the family pet wasn't excluded and also received its share of affection and attention from Mary-Anne. Mary-Anne will be deeply missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband Don; son Thomas "Charles"; daughter Zhi-Anne; brother Patrick Beernaert, his wife Kathy and family; sister Theresa Gillespie, husband Alan and family; brother Dennis Beernaert, wife Cyndy and family; father-in-law Robert Robinson and wife Mavis; brother-in-law Jim Robinson, wife Arlene and family; brother-in-law Les Robinson and wife Shalene. Mary-Anne was predeceased by parents, George and Kathleen Beernaert, as well as younger brother Anthony.
Relatives and friends are invited to prayers and tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (5340 - 4th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall.

  • I felt truly blessed to have known and worked with Mary Anne; memories of such kindness and wisdom. With loving prayers, Jane. - Posted by: Jane Steblecki Corns (Colleague ) on: Sep 25, 2019

  • Mary-Anne became my supervisor at the WRHA and my first meeting with her was on Sept 11, 2001. Mary-Anne was profoundly influential on me and my career. She opened doors for me that I didn't even know existed. Mary-Anne and her family moved to Calgary shortly after. I always wished that I would have had more time to be mentored and learn from her. I was so sad to read of this news. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Colleen Einarson (co-worker) on: Sep 23, 2019

  • Mary-Anne was a genuine, caring person with vision and courage. It was a pleasure working under her direction. - Posted by: Horst Backe (Former employee) on: Sep 22, 2019

  • I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to all of Mary Anne’s family. I worked with Mary Anne at the former WHA/WCA and then WRHA. Many of us will remember her life being deeply enriched through the adoption of her beautiful children. Our lives crossed paths again as I became more involved in both nursing and paramedic regulation. What struck me always about Mary Anne was how much she LOVED her work. She was energetic and dedicated. And extremely knowledgeable. At many a conference she would greet me with open arms and immediately want to catch herself up on my roles and every time offered her wisdom and knowledge. I regret not capitalizing on this as much as I could have. Her loss will be felt for some time. May she be at peace and rest. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Colleague) on: Sep 21, 2019
