DOUGLAS ANDERSON PARSONAGE
November 9, 1950 September 18, 2019
Doug will be sadly missed by his father Jack (Lorraine La Lier); his siblings, Terry (Paula Gardner), Bob (Lynn Burns), Don (Leslie), Eleanor Black (Rial) and Anne. Doug is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, one great-nephew and one great-niece.
Doug was predeceased by his mother Margaret in 1996, and his older brother Greg in 1985.
After graduating from Kelvin High School, Doug obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Manitoba. Doug was a lover of books. It was only fitting that he worked as a librarian at the University of Manitoba Dafoe Library for over 30 years, retiring in 2012. His home on Morley Avenue was full of books, especially his attic that was stuffed to the rafters with weighty tomes covering a wide variety of subjects. Doug was a student of the art world with a special interest in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a group of seven English painters, poets, and critics founded in 1848. He would often travel to European art museums to study and enjoy the works of his favourite painters. He also enjoyed attending performances by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Manitoba Opera.
Doug's family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa as they always treated Doug with kindness and respect. We would also like to thank Doug's personal companions, Terry Cristobal and Tessie Villaneuva for making Doug's life more comfortable and rewarding with their devoted care and attention.
Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Doug's life.
If so desired, donations may be made to Agape Table, or a charity of your choice.
