HENRY LOEWEN
Born: March 12, 1931
Date of Passing: September 20, 2019

Peacefully on September 20, 2019 our dear Dad passed away at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 88 years.
Dad will be sadly missed by his daughters, Gisela and Rosemary. He is also survived by his brother Peter (Tina), sisters-in-law, Annemarie Moeller and Irene Kroeker, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ilse, sisters, Tina (Jacob) and Mary (John), and brother Jake (Margaret).
Dad was born on March 12, 1931 in Neuendorf, Russia. In 1948 the family immigrated to Canada. In 1953 Dad married his sweetheart Ilse with whom he shared 52 years. Daughters Gisela and Rosemary completed the family. Dad worked for Building Products and later for Welclad Industries and in 1991 he retired after 41 years of work. Dad was a very caring and giving person who cherished his family and friends. They were always welcome at anytime. Dad enjoyed many years at the cottage fishing in Brereton Lake. The family also enjoyed spending time in Gimli and camping at West Hawk Lake. He was able to take wonderful family vacations to Banff, Radium Hot Springs and into the States.
In his earlier years, Dad enjoyed helping others with various projects. You could always count on Dad to lend a hand. Another interest of Dad's was working on cars. In his later years, Dad really enjoyed gardening, especially growing big Russian tomatoes. Sharing a meal, especially if it included potatoes, was very much enjoyed. Dad's health enabled him to live independently well into his 80s. It was only in the last few years that he made the move to Bethania Haus. It was an easy change because of the daily companionship he found there with his dear friends, Mary and Adina. He also enjoyed attending services in the chapel, especially hearing the choirs sing.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, with Reverend Franz Wiebe officiating. A lunch will be served at Bethania Haus, 1060 Kimberley Avenue following the service. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery.
We wish to thank Dr. Tunovic and Dr. Nayak for their compassion and expert care given to Dad. He was forever grateful. Dad welcomes everyone to say their final goodbye.

We love and miss you Dad.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I have a card for you but I only know your first names and no addresses. We knew and loved your parents, especially your mom when we ALL came to Winnipeg in the early fifties. We Danziger spent a lot of time visiting with each other. I still remember your parents great joy when you arrived. Werner and I moved to Ontario 50 years ago and kind of lost touch. In the last 4 years my mother has been a resident at Bethania Personal Care Home and we always visited with your dad after church Sunday mornings. Hearing problems for me and for him limited our conversation. I tried to ask about you but I never understood too well. Your dad always asked about my family and sent "Gruesse an Werner" (my husband who rarely visited). We wish that we could have been with you when you remembered your dad at the funeral. Wishing you well, Werner & Margot Fieguth (daughter of Hella Funk). - Posted by: Margot Fieguth (old friend of the Kroeker/Loewen family.) on: Oct 26, 2019

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Gisela and Rose. I have great memories of Uncle Henry and the times we got together usually on December 26th! I look back at those years and appreciate them more as time goes on. Wishing you also great memories of your dad as you move forward daily. Love, Elenor (& Larry) - Posted by: Elenor Penner (Cousin/niece to Uncle Henry) on: Sep 26, 2019
