REVEREND ABRAM NEUFELD
We wish to say thank you to the staff at Eastview and Dr. Wining who looked after Dad's needs during these past years. As a family, we are deeply grateful for your compassionate care.
Abe Neufeld was born on February 14, 1922 in Neuendorf, South Russia. His parents were Abram P. and Katherine (Rose) Neufeld. In July 1923, his parents, with their five children, immigrated to Canada, and settled in the community of Drake, Saskatchewan.
It was here that Abe received his education. The North Star Mennonite Church was his spiritual home. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ and was received as a member of the church in 1942. He was ordained to the ministry by his home church in 1948.
Abe met Nettie (Friesen), from Edenthal, Manitoba, at Canadian Mennonite Bible College and they dated for a short time and were married on August 25, 1951 in Rosenfeld. The Lord blessed their union with three children, Marlene (Ellery Peters), Donald (Bev Nickel) and Richard (Caroline Winter). The family expanded to eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
After their marriage, Abe and Nettie entered the ministry and were privileged to serve in three congregations, New Westminster, BC, Swift Current, SK and Steinbach, MB. He was also able to serve the Saskatchewan and Alberta conferences as Conference Pastor for six years.
In August 1989, Abe and Nettie retired from full-time ministry after which Abe serviced five or six years as Interim Pastor in several different congregations.
The Lord has been good. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary just a month ago.
Abe will be missed by his wife Nettie, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister Hildegarde (Waldemar), sister-in-law Susan, as well as extended family and friends.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to MCC or Mennonite Church Canada.
Funeral service and interment will take place on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.

Abe was a kind and quiet leader. I appreciated his wisdom and input when I was one of the pastors at Bethel Mennonite Church. He listened, gave good counsel and cared. He will be missed. - Posted by: Ruth Boehm (friend) on: Sep 26, 2019
