MARGARET ANNE-MARIE LINKLATER
(AKA JUDY)
January 3, 1944 – November 26, 2016

After a brave nine year battle with cancer, Anne-Marie passed away peacefully at aged 72 years at Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto.
Anne-Marie was of Metis and Hungarian ancestry. As a child, she lived on the Linklater homestead in Grand Marais with her twin brothers, mother and grandmother. The family moved to Winnipeg in the 1950s. In the 70s, Anne-Marie settled in Montreal with her daughter. They joined a yoga community in the 80s and lived in the Laurentians, New York, London and Paris. Throughout her life, Anne-Marie had many different jobs including live-in housekeeper for Lord and Lady Plowden, pastry chef, cook, hospital porter, and family worker. She loved the arts, was an avid reader, and had an incredible singing voice. Anne-Marie was known for her intelligence, wit, and irreverence. She was spirited with a zest for life and vocabulary to match. A few days before she passed away, she reflected on having lived an unconventional life and broke into song with "I Did It My Way."
She is predeceased by her brothers, Arthur and Arnold, and her mother Ruby.
She is survived by her daughter Anne-Marie Smith, granddaughter Matilda, and daughter-in-law Joy Lachica.
Anne-Marie's ashes will be interred on October 5, 2019 in St. Jude's Anglican Church Cemetary, Grand Marais, MB.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was a roommate of Anne-Marie in 1968. The Manitoba government was building a hydro dam near Gillam and we both worked there. She had previously been in Montreal. She was fun and a character. I often thought about her later. - Posted by: Susan Darlington (Susan) on: Aug 12, 2023
