RICHARD MAGNUS GISLI (DICK) JOHNSON
September 5, 1951 - September 22, 2019
He was predeceased by his parents, Siggi and Dorothy Johnson and in-laws, Tony and Betty Sutyla. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family: wife Maureen, children, Derek (Krista) Johnson, Jenny (Ray) Smith and Mitch (Amanda) Johnson; grandkids, Mackenzie, Raymond, Stefan, Kristjan, Siggi, Brynlee and Leif; Auntie Sella Benedictson; siblings, Donny (Corrinne), Bob (Donna), Sigrid (Ryan) and Bruce; sister in-law Susie (Brian); brothers-in-law, Brian (Linda), Billy (Marcy) and Al (Jodi); close friend and fellow musician Roy (Carol) Gudmundson, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great friends.
Dad was born at the Gimli Hospital. He lived in Riverton where he met the love of his life, Maureen, at Riverton High School in grade 9. They then married on August 14, 1971. They moved to Winnipeg where Dad took his Electrical Journeyman Ticket and saw the birth of their first child Derek in 1973. Dad's heart was always in Riverton, and they moved back in 1975, then buying a small house and moving it to where the homestead is today. Jenny was born in 1976 and Mitch in 1978. He loved spending time with Mom on many vacations. Most often the trips included a casino. Dad loved his kids and grandkids so very much and they loved him. Eventually in 2003 Mom and Dad built their dream house, big enough to hold all the kids and grandkids. Besides being a meticulous electrician he was also an avid hunter, fisherman and talented musician. His love for music will never be forgotten. He was a phenomenal musician who passed down his musical abilities to his kids and shared tricks of the trade with many others. His voice was the voice of an angel, soft and smooth. His lead and harmony notes will never be duplicated or forgotten. Dad, you will be forever loved and deeply missed by so many.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Riverton Community Hall at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1. There will be a private family interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverton Cemetery Endowment Fund, Box 505, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0.
Gilbert Funeral Home, in care of arrangements.
