HILDA HARLEY
(nee COOKE)
October 6, 1925 - September 25, 2019
Her parents, Fred and Mary Cooke, raised a real gem and a firecracker. Mom was a people magnet, from the time that she worked at Motorways years ago until her very final days. That sweet little old lady drew people from all walks of life with her smile or a wink and a bit of sass. Her long walks and frequent bus rides were always filled with stories of her adventures and the people that she met. Those stories, like the little brown dog in the parking lot at Grant Park, will keep her close to us and in our memory.
She will be greatly missed by her son Gordon Harley, daughter Joanne (David) Krestanowich, grandchildren, Cheryl and Billy (Paige) Krestanowich and Daniel Harley, as well as her long-time friends, Jim and Marilyn Palmer.
Many thanks to the staff and home care gals at Devonshire House, who enabled Mom to live independently and with dignity for so long. It is the kindness and care of many people that allowed her to keep the independence that she valued so much. Mom moved to Donwood Manor in the spring, and we can't say enough about how wonderful and caring the staff was during her short stay there.
Cremation has taken place, and Mom will be joining Cliff at Thompson "In the Park". Mom didn't want a formal service, so we'll have a little get-together for family and friends on Wednesday, October 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Joanne and Dave's, 34 Killington Bay. We will share some stories as well as her favourite fancy-sandwiches, and a little something-else or a wee dram for those that choose.
In recognition of Mom's "forgetties," donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
Somewhere out there is a big party with a bottle of Tia Maria and many of the people that she's loved. We'll miss you.

Joanne and family, Gord, Reading this column and seeing your mom here brought on a flood of memories from our early years on Waterford. Of course reading your tribute fills in some gaps in time and about the character of your mom. Fondly - Posted by: Cathy Murray (school friend (Joanne)) on: Sep 28, 2019
