LINDA DARLENE BURBANK
(nee HOUSTON)
February 22, 1948 - September 21, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda, loving wife, mother and grandmother, at the side of her husband Bill while travelling together in their RV. They were doing exactly what they always loved to do together - exploring, eating good food and enjoying each other's company.
Linda held many jobs in her life. Although successful in all, she is most remembered by following in her father's footsteps as a School Bus Driver.
Her life was highlighted and enhanced by camping where she met the love of her life, Bill. She enjoyed summers with Bill and their girls out on the road and by the campfire. What was once a vacation became Linda and Bill's lifestyle in retirement.
Linda was quick to make friends in every one of the many places they have been. Her positive spirit was infectious and left an impression on everyone she met - people and dogs. Many of the friends they met while travelling were made through the dogs she would meet while on walks. The "granddogs" were spoiled by her. There was an unconditional love between grandma and her four legged friends.
Linda loved family and friends getting together and had a way of making everybody feel comfortable. She was our reluctant event planner who pulled every gathering off without a hitch. When Linda had you over, you ate well, you laughed and left happy.
Her enthusiasm for life and those she loved was evident at every event - big or small. Linda would become the number one fan of her friends and family interests, activities and passions. Our number one cheerleader will be sadly missed.
She leaves to mourn, her husband Bill, of 51 years; daughters, Heather (Joe) and Kathy (Quentin); grandson Will; granddogs Jessie, Beckham, Zach and Nama; sisters-in-law, Patty (Andy) and Bev (Richard), as well as nephews, Sean and Logan, and several other dear, close family members and friends who Linda cherished.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Bill Houston, and her mother and father-in-law, Molly and Vern Burbank.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Canad Inns Fort Garry, Ambassador Room A, 1824 Pembina Hwy. on Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (come and go with no formal service).
For those who wish, contributions in Linda's memory would be greatly appreciated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Bill and daughters, I offer my deepest sympathies. Linda was my high school buddy. We attended Charleswood Collegiate and had many fun and happy times together. Although we lost touch over time, except for a few messages, I think of her often and know she had a wonderful life. - Posted by: Lynne Kuzyk (Friend) on: Oct 08, 2019

  • Deepest condolences to Bill, Heather, and Kathy. I grew up with Kathy in Selkirk and Linda was always so welcoming. Linda welcomed me again to stay during a transition to university. I always enjoyed spending time in the Burbank home. My thoughts are with you all and your families. - Posted by: Gina Clark (Obodzinski) (Childhood friend of Kathy) on: Oct 04, 2019

  • Dear Bill, Heather, Kathy and families, We were so sorry to hear about the loss of Linda. We always remember her being so happy and outgoing. We knew her in Selkirk were she drove almost daily our daughter Gina and Kathy to university and then we met up again in Gillam where we had a lot of fun times. Unfortunately we are leaving on holiday this week and will not be able to attend her Celebration of Life. Our heartfelt sympathies to you all. • We were so saddened to learn of Linda's recent passing We know she will be forever missed by her husband, Bill, their two daughters - Heather and Kathy and their families, as well as extended family and many friends. Linda was a lovely woman - full of fun, very generous, caring and a real "people person". Many happy times were spent in Winnipeg with them, then in Cambridge, ON. and again later in Winnipeg. She was taken too early and she will be missed by anyone who had the good fortune to know her. Our sympathy to Bill, Heather, Kathy & their families. • I have so many memories of Linda. I remember one afternoon out at Rabbit Lake (Kenora) when the “older kids” let me sit in the boat while they were water skiing. I would have been about 10 yrs old. Bill is my older brother and I think that was the day he fell in love with Linda. I remember thinking how pretty she was as she water skied with such grace. I said to Bill “she has nice teeth” (you know just like a 10 yr old would say) and he said with stars in his eyes, “she has a lot of nice things”. Their love blossomed from that day I am sure. Linda always managed to make people laugh with her great story telling and sense of humor. I will miss her very much. She left us way too soon but, if this makes anyone feel better, please know she had a wonderful life, a fabulous husband, two successful daughters and a bright grandson. She lived and traveled many places with her family. She never hurt anyone that I know of and she probably had no regrets. She was such a clean, neat person. Everything was always in order and her home was like a show home. The love of her life was with her when she passed so quickly. Other than time, what more could you ask for? • Our relationship began with Hydro Supervisors conventions with Ron and Bill enjoyed engineering careers while Linda and I were significant others. Our friendship continued into retirement in southern Texas where we enjoyed games, dinners, dances and conversation in large and small groups. We had our last nice visit at a 50th anniversary of mutual friends Barry and Judy, this July. It is surreal that Linda is no longer with us, we know she will be a guardian angel for her family and others who need watching over. We love you Linda. Our condolences to Bill and all the family, our prayers are with you in this your time of grief. Alice - Posted by: Ron & Alice Gibson (Hydro X for both Bill and Ron) on: Sep 28, 2019
