JAMES (JIMMY) MCGARRIGLE
DUNLOP
Left to cherish Jimmy's memory are his wife and soul mate, Mary (nee Boyd); his daughter Karla (Michael); his son Lyle (Belinda), and grandchildren, Lanaya and Boyd. He is also survived by his brother David (Kathleen), and his sister Violet, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret; as well as his brother William; his sisters, Betty (John) and Iris (William); and brother-in-law Van.
Born September 6, 1936 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Jimmy was raised in a large, loving family. In 1958, he enlisted in the British Army and served for six years. While working in England as a power line installer in 1965, Jimmy met the love of his life, Mary, while on vacation in Derry. A year later, his job brought him back to Northern Ireland where his romance with Mary blossomed. Knowing early in their relationship that they were destined to be together, they made plans for their life together. They were married on January 5, 1970 and the following day they embarked on a journey to Winnipeg to settle and raise their family. A true lover of life's simple things, Jimmy enjoyed long walks with his dog(s), gardening, reading and passionately following his Jets and Blue Bombers. After retirement from a long career in logistics, he loved spending time during the cold Manitoba winters on the tropical island of Maui. More than anything, Jimmy was devoted to his family and could always be counted on to provide an ear or a shoulder to help brighten one's day. It was typical to find him sitting on his deck with either of his beloved grandkids or his dog or cat on his lap.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue for family and friends to pay their respects.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Grace Hospital Emergency and 3 South staff for their kindness and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of James Dunlop to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.

Words are not adequate at a time like this but I hope it gives you some comfort to know that all your family in Northern Ireland have you all very much in our thoughts and prayers. My Uncle Jimmy was without doubt one of life's true gentlemen and I will always remember with fondness the many chats and laughs we had whenever he was visiting Northern Ireland. Although many miles apart I'm thinking of you all at this sad time. To all our family in Canada please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of our Uncle Jimmy, and you are all very much in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time for you all.
