MILDRED MARGUERITE FLETCHER

Mildred "Millie" Marguerite Fletcher (Olafson), 88, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, George, her parents, Per and Hilma Olafson, her brother Donny, sister-in-law Shirley, as well as her two sons-in-law, Rolf and Mike.
Millie is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn and Sandra, her four grandchildren, Stacee (Mike), Jenn (Stephen), Ashley (Justin) and Ryan (Cailin), along with her brother Paul (Pat), sister-in-law Mable (Harold), close cousin Ruth (Gord), and numerous great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces.
Millie, a lifelong resident of Winnipeg, was born on September 5, 1931 and grew up heavily involved in Winnipeg's Swedish community. She, as well, had a lifelong passion for sports and could usually be found on a baseball diamond or an ice rink. Later in life Mildred would be a proud Winnipeg Jet season ticket holder and spent countless hours supporting them right up until the days before she died.
Mildred was a bindery worker for over 35 years at various printing presses throughout the city. After she retired some of her favourite times were the years she spent caregiving for her niece and dear friend Joy's family.
Mildred will be remembered for her boisterous laugh, sharp wit and competitive spirit. She exemplified unwavering loyalty and when called upon always rose to the occasion. We will cherish her memory and carry her wisdom with us moving forward.
The family will be following Mildred's wishes and be holding a private family gathering.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you send donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

  • Dear Sandi & family, So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts & prayers are with you. I always enjoyed hearing your Millie the Model stories every morning before work. She had a great sense of humour and will be truly missed. Tracey, Len & Adam Wowryk - Posted by: Tracey Wowryk (Friend) on: Oct 06, 2019

  • Millie made an impact in our lives. When we were first introduced to Millie through our daughter-in-law Jenn she was instantly adopted as one of our family. She came to birthday functions at our home and found her spot on the swing in front of the house where she could have a smoke and watch everyone play baseball or bocci. Her laugh was contagious, and her dry humour always left us waiting for the next gut busting remark. We will miss you dearly I hope they have Facebook in Heaven so you can keep an eye on my (Boot Spending )😂 With love Tina and Steve Gilbert - Posted by: Tina Gilbert (Family ) on: Oct 05, 2019
