LOIS ELEANOR RONALD
Lois will be greatly missed by her four children: Bev Laurin (Roger), Darlene (Stew Heaton), twins Carol and Gord, also known as Craig, (Annette); four grandchildren: Derrick, Ryan, Vanessa and Rebecca; sister Evelyn Macklem (Surrey, BC), sister-in-law Lorraine Scarr (Winnipeg); and other family members.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, as well as her parents, Alice and William, and six siblings.
Born in Winnipeg in 1926, Lois was an uptown girl, having lived on Fort Street from age five to 23. She attended Mulvey Elementary and Gordon Bell High School.
Lois met Gord at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. Being on the shy side, she fell for the outgoing and fun-loving character who was so different from her, and they were married in 1949. They spent most of their lives in the St. Vital and Windsor Park areas.
Children soon followed, and Lois enjoyed motherhood immensely. Broken hearts, broken dreams, broken bones - Lois was always there for her kids providing unconditional love, guidance, an open heart, and a shoulder to cry on.
She returned to work in her 40s and her first job was as a clerk in the Eaton's Grill Room Hostess Shop. She then enrolled in Success Business College, landing a receptionist job with Central Park Lodge (CPL) - a personal care home on Edmonton Street and later became the bookkeeper and payroll clerk, retiring from CPL at age 68.
Lois always enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafting, gardening, following sports - the Bombers, Jets, and more recently, the Toronto Raptors. In later life, Lois enjoyed travelling and took up bowling after retirement. She often volunteered for Manitoba Opera.
She unexpectedly became a lake person in her 50s, when the family acquired a lot at Grindstone Provincial Park on Lake Winnipeg, clearing the bush and building a log cabin. Although not something she'd planned on, Lois grew to love being there.
Her four grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved babysitting, spending many hours with them, cheering them on at their sports events and other activities, and watching them grow and becoming the wonderful young people they are today.
Lois was a class act. She carried herself with grace and humility her entire life. She was kind, genuinely caring, a trusted confidante, loved a good laugh, and demonstrated everyday how to live life to your best ability no matter what is thrown at you.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to staff of both the Third Floor CD Wing at Riverview and St. Norbert for their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. A service celebrating Lois' life will take place Saturday, November 2 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Manitoba Opera, or Parkinson Canada in Manitoba.
