SAMUEL MICHAEL HOFER
December 3, 1940 - August 5, 2019
Left to mourn is his beautiful wife Edith; son Chris (Paula), and grandchildren, Taylor (Ty), Amy (Connor) and Josh. Sam was also a proud great-grandpa to Levi and Harper. Sam also made room in his big heart to welcome and love the three newest grandkids, Thalissa, Natalia and Camron.
Sam also had a large family on Edith's side: Russ, deceased, (Elenor, deceased), Doreen, deceased, (Gordon, deceased), Doug, deceased, (Barb, deceased), Annie (Arnold, deceased), Laura (Bud, deceased), Ruby (Glen), Billy, deceased, (Flo, deceased), Pat (Bob) and Jim (Gloria). Sam was born in Bai St. Paul, Manitoba on December 3, 1940 to Michael and Kathrina Hofer, deceased; and had 12 brothers and sisters, Katie (Paul), Michael (Elizabeth, deceased), Sarah (David), Rebecca, deceased, (Jonty), Mary (Benjamin, deceased), Jacob, John (Suzie), David, deceased, (Maryanne), Levi (Maria), Joseph, Peter (Dorothy) and Lisa.
Sam met the love of his life Edith in the late 1960s and wed on May 15, 1971. The two of them had a bond like no other. Sam became a stepdad to Edith's daughter Charlene, deceased, and soon thereafter welcomed their beautiful son Chris. Sam and Edith moved to Warren in 1976 and have made that their home ever since.
Sam had a career as a bus driver with Grey Hound. He managed to retire in his 30th year in 1997 with an impeccable driving record. Many miles with many friendships made along the way. Sam also had a love for his bobcat. He owned and operated Sam's Bobcat Services for over 18 years. Although Sam sold his business years ago, whenever Sammy saw one in operation, he was always quick to jump in and finish the job. Sam was a jack of all trades. A plumber, carpenter, electrician, roofer, mechanic and gardener. Whatever needed fixing, Sam was always there to lend a hand. His expertise and knowledge were always welcomed and will be greatly missed.
Sam and Edith also had a love for music. Their guitar picking, mandolin playing, toe tapping fiddling music will be missed by many. Countless friendships were made listening to Sam and Edith sing and harmonize. Even when Sam was battling cancer, the love of his family and friends along with the unwavering support of his community, helped him through some of his toughest days. Sam's boisterous laugh, heart-warming bear hugs and even his stubborn ways will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank the Selkirk RCMP, paramedics and all first responders.

When we got the news of your Dad we were deeply saddened. Sam was such a nice man. He was one of the first to actually make us feel welcome in Warren 25 years ago. Always had time for a chat, seems we always ran into each other at the P.O. Our deepest sympathy to all, family and friends. Your Mom is in our hearts as well. Sincerely, Guy, Cathy, Michael and Ashleigh - Posted by: Cathy and Guy Dearman (Friends) on: Oct 17, 2019

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you Edith, your family and as well to the Hanslip and Hofer families. The world has been blessed with this very talented group of people. It was many years ago when we first met Sam and he left a lasting impression on us. - Posted by: Ray & Mrs Faye Mason (family friend) on: Oct 16, 2019

Our deepest condolences to you, Edith, to Chris and to all of your families. Sam and Edith were two of our first and very best friends in Palm Shadows. As our next door neighbour and friend, Sam was always warm-hearted, helpful, fun-loving and supportive. Edith and Sam generously shared their gifts: their music, their sense of humour, and their hospitality with us daily. We will always think of Sam when it is time to go to Texas in the winter. Edith, our hearts are with you as you continue to recover from this life-changing tragedy. Hugs dear friend, and much love. - Posted by: David and Debbie Pearson (Friends) on: Oct 15, 2019

My deepest condolences to Edith and family..I've known both Sam and Edith for many years...we shared a lot of good memories, they performed at many functions that I attended including going to the "Hawk Museum' in North Dakota where they were a great hit with their singing and harmonising and came back to perform for many years. I cherish the memories of Sam, he was a fun loving man. Edith, I wish you the Very Best in your recovery. We heard of Sam's passing with great sorrow. We enjoyed dancing and listening to this great couple for what will be a few years. They both were quite popular among us winter Texans residing in the Palm shadows RV park. We wish Edith a full recovery and the strength to bear this unfortunate loss. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Paul and Donna Berube (friend and fans) on: Oct 14, 2019

I commuted to Winnipeg from Portage la Prairie for years and got to know Sam as the bus driver. He treated all of his passengers like they were riding in first class. Always smiling, always happy, he was truly a shining example of what customer service is all about. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Alan Owens (bus rider) on: Oct 14, 2019

Sam, you will truly be missed. We always enjoyed listening to you & Edith with your band in PS - but we truly enjoyed having you as neighbors. The best time was for Marilyn's birthday when we got together & you really showed off your talent - uke, spoons, guitar, & singing & harmonizing. We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Edith & to your extended families. May God be with them. - Posted by: Harvey & Carol Rosenbaum (Friends from Palm Shadows) on: Oct 13, 2019
