Freda brought energy and humour to life and family gatherings with the Lees, Esselmont, Coulter and Voss families. She was a YWCA leader and gymnast in her youth, a caring homemaker most of her life and also had enjoyed employment at Jiffy Lunch, MacDonald Aircraft, Burn's, and The Bay. She benefitted from church life at Sutherland and Stella Missions and Maryland, Harstone, and John Black United churches, and also appreciated chapel at Donwood.
Born in Neepawa, a twin to Fred, she also had older siblings, Peggy and Les. She lived in the North End, West End, and North Kildonan. Most of her NK years were spent among friends at Edgewood Estates, and in her final years she benefitted from increasing care at Donwood Assisted Living and finally at Donwood Personal Care.
To all who helped her and enjoyed her company along the way Freda would give a hearty thank you. Her last days were made much more comfortable by Patty, Jen, Chris, Cassandra, Lisa and Sharon, and all other aides and specialists who were by her side.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Thanks Lorraine. Nice of you to write in. Sorry to hear of the loss of your parents and husband as well. Your story brought back some of my earliest memories. I also think it was in our preschool years that our family’s paths crossed. That’s a while ago! Yes the little store beside us, run by a kindly couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kemp, was the source of many treats and and example of small scale neighbourliness. I also recall ice cream cups in a little box, fashioned to hang around my neck by string, to turn me into an “official” ice cream dispenser at one birthday. Thanks for sharing your warm memory inclusive of my mom, dad, and brother, of what seemed to be simpler times. Barry - Posted by: Barry Esselmont (Son) on: Feb 23, 2020

  • I remember when I was little, possibly preschool our parents would get together. My brother Bob and I would play with Barry and Brian while our parents visited. The treat of the evening was that your Dad, Harold, would go to the little store next door to your house and we were allowed to choose a soft drink. I have a photo of us at one of your birthday parties. I am sorry about the loss of your mother. Both of my parents are gone and I just lost my husband. I saw Frieda's obituary and wanted to say that I have fond memories of being at your house when we were little. - Posted by: Lorraine (Bell) Nelson (parents were friends years ago) on: Oct 26, 2019
