NORA EVALYN MILLEY
(nee INGRAM)
March 2, 1925 October 15, 2019
Predeceased by her husband, William H. Milley in 1995; and by her sisters, Eileen and Merle, Evalyn will be lovingly remembered by her children, Barbara (Doug) Benning, Gordon (Cindee) Milley, Diane (Chick) Olivier, Keith Milley, her niece and nephew, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Evalyn touched countless lives with her love and kindness and is truly unforgettable. She was born in 1925 in Calgary, Alberta, and graduated from Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Completing a midwifery program in New York City thereafter, she then practiced obstetrical nursing in Red Deer, Alberta. It was during her training years where she met our father, Bill Milley while he was studying engineering, and they married in Calgary in 1951. Beginning their new lives together in Champagne, Illinois where Dad completed his Masters, they settled in Toronto soon after. While in Toronto, mother continued with her love of obstetrical nursing until Winnipeg called them westward in 1958 - their growing family of three kids, a dog and cat soon settled into their Wildwood Park home. Adding a fourth child in later years, Mom and Dad then retired to Florida in 1980.
Ever the adventurist, our mother took up sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, racing with the Lady Windlasses of Dunedin for many years. She remained in Florida, enjoying her church family and engaged in many bible studies until her return to Canada in 2013. Our family enjoys many fond memories of cottage life at West Hawk Lake where she raised her young family and worked alongside our father in all cottage construction and improvements over many years. Always nurturing, Evalyn was most comfortable reaching out to our childhood friends for cottage sleepovers, our Alberta cousins for extended stays each summer, all her grandchildren, close girlfriends and any and all stray dogs and cats.
The family would like to thank the team at Brightwater for their kindness and gentle care of our mother over the past years.
Cremation has taken place. A private family tribute will be held at her final mountainside resting place in Alberta.
If so desired, donations may be made in Evalyn's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
