ELDON KROEKER
1945 - 2019

With sad hearts and wonderful memories, Eldon's family announces the news of his passing. After a long struggle with heart disease, Eldon left us on Monday, October 7, 2019.
Left to mourn Eldon's passing are his beloved wife Marlene; four children, Melanie MacIver (Dave), Donovan Kroeker (Shannon), Aaron Kroeker (Lindsey Davidson), and Rachael Kroeker (Dave McMillan); grandchildren, Zoe and Finley Kroeker, and Chloe and Aria MacIver. He is also survived by Margaret Kroeker; sisters-in-law, Anita and Carolyn; and brother-in-law Richard.
He was predeceased by his brother Gordon and sister Esther; parents, Jake and Annie; and in-laws, William and Iona Varey.
Eldon was born on March 14, 1945 in Rosenort, MB. The family relocated to Winnipeg when Eldon was in his teens. He later received his teaching degree from the University of Manitoba and taught a variety of subject matters at both elementary and junior high school throughout his 30 year teaching career. Eldon was always trying to find new and interesting projects to keep his students engaged.
Eldon and Marlene met in January 1970 and were married June 30, 1972. Next January would have been their 50th year together. They were an inseparable, incredible pair, and he will always be close to her heart.
Eldon had a passion for adventure and a deep love for his family. He was known for his incredible imagination, his kind smile, courage, and his unique witty humour. In the summers, he would usually be found with his family at Booster Lake. He built the family cottage by hand and loved adventuring with the kids on the lake, spending many hours towing the neighbouring kids on water skis. He built handmade kayaks for the family to paddle on the lake. Eldon was well loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life for Eldon will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. in Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota St.
His family wishes to thank Dr. N. Hechtenthal, Dr. G. Balko, the Congestive Heart Failure team at St. Boniface Hospital, Johannis, Gord for welcoming him into the church, and Charlotte and her amazing palliative team that helped bring him home for 12 days.
Donations in Eldon's memory to the St. Boniface Research Cardiac Centre will be gratefully appreciated.
A private family interment of ashes will follow at a later date. Messages can be sent to eldonkroeker45@gmail.com.

He was my sunshine.
Forever loved, always remembered.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I knew Eldon and Marlene as lake neighbours. I think that both the Kroekers and the Wiebes had the oldest boats on the lake at one time! We used to watch him out on the lake, enjoying pulling the kids behind that boat. As a fellow teacher, I was saddened when Eldon first became ill with his heart disease. He seemed to "retire" far too early. My condolences to Marlene and the kids. I know you will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Karen Wiebe (Fiend and Lake Neighbour) on: Oct 21, 2019

  • He will be missed by all his family and friends. - Posted by: Lorne Dell & Wanda Ladyman (Friends) on: Oct 21, 2019
