ANNA KAGLIK
January 2, 1923 - October 10, 2019

Anna Kaglik passed away peacefully on October 10, 2019, at Lions Manor. She was 96.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe at 64. She had a very busy life, she and Joe opened up their restaurant, Ricky's Lunch, in the 1960s and later took over the Queen's Hotel in Plum Coulee, then building the Happy Wanderer Motor Hotel. They eventually moved back to Winnipeg and owned and managed two apartment buildings in the city for many years. After Joe passed away, Anna continued working until she retired at 79.
At 83, she called us to tell us, she was moving herself into "The old folks home"! And so, she became a resident of the Lions Manor. At the beginning of her stay, she was very involved in all the activities; she enjoyed being in the Christmas plays, she did chair Yoga and played bingo. She especially loved to dance, even while she was in a wheelchair she still loved to move to the music. She was very involved in volunteering, helping in any way she could, visiting the extended care patients who were alone and brought some cheer their way. But her real passion was cooking - we all remember the pinching of thousands of perogies and the baking of the many many pies - so many good things came out of that little kitchen and many were sold at the fundraising events in Harvey Hall for the benefit of the residents of the Lions Manor - her new home!
She was an amazing cook and baker, happy to be sharing recipes measured by handfuls, pinches and thumbnails - she was able to recreate whatever she turned her hand to. As she aged and her world became smaller, towards the end of her life, she resided in the Extended Care Unit, at Lions Manor, still enjoying her weekly Bingo.
Anna is survived by her three children, Erna Eva, Sonia, and Rick; as well as five grandchildren, Brandy, David and Laura, Ashley and Cory; and six great-grandchildren, Owen, Luke, Reid, Mila, Bodhi, and little Isla.
She will be missed by all who loved her.
If friends wish, donations may be made to the Lions Manor in Anna's name.
