PETER ISAAK
August 5, 1933 – October 16, 2019

It is with love, honour and respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Isaak with his family at his bedside on October 16, 2019.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Hildegard (nee Peters); his children, Jon (Mary Anne) and Chuck (Corinne); his grandchildren, Peter, Rianna (Benni), Aleah, Haley (Eusebio) and Kristofer and by his sister Agatha.
Peter was the last child born to the farming family of Franz and Maria Isaak of Niverville, Manitoba. He is predeceased by brothers, Abe, John, Frank, Jake and Henry and by sisters, Mary, Frieda and Catherine.
Peter will be remembered for his strong leadership in education, first as a Math teacher and then as Principal at West Kildonan Collegiate and West St. Paul School. In retirement, he found much joy in helping to organize the Good Neighbours Active Living Centre in East Kildonan. His life of service was grounded in his Mennonite heritage and faith. We cherish his memory as a man of faith, family and service.
The family thanks the wonderful fourth floor staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo Street, who cared so well for Peter during his time there.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. with a viewing at 6:00 p.m. at McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Ave., Winnipeg, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Neighbours Active Living Centre.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I attended WKCI in the late 60's. I too got to know Mr. Isaak by my being involved in student council work as Secretary since I could take minutes of meetings with my newly learned shorthand which would later be put to good use in my paralegal career. Mr. Isaak was always very kind to the students and always had time to help us solve any problems we might have. I still remember that lovely smile he always wore. He was definitely one of the nicest teachers I ever knew. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Carol Verdant (Former Student) on: Feb 28, 2020

  • Mr Issak was a good man. In particular, he took great initiative to break rules and get the bureaucratic approval required for me to graduate WKCI in 1970. Mr. Issak had the fortitude to do what he thought was right, even when it went against his apparent nature to follow rules. Thank you. - Posted by: Gary Miles (Former student) on: Feb 06, 2020

  • Mr & Mrs Isaak were my neigbours while growing up and continued a friendship through the years, I'm so sorry I missed the obituary by a few hours because I would have attended the funeral. - Posted by: Pat Korman (nee Johnston) (former Edison neighbour/friend) on: Oct 24, 2019

  • I had the pleasure of taking care of Peter who was such a gentle soul. Even though I only looked after him for a few months I never forgot him. He had a contagious smile and a kind manner about him. Peter was such a sweet person and I looked forward to taking care of him everyday. - Posted by: Kim (HomeCare worker) on: Oct 19, 2019

  • I attended WKCI in the 70s. I got to know Mr. Isaak by my being involved in student-council work. He was unfailingly courteous and supportive. The glass was always half-full with him. Once, my Math class was treated to him subbing for the regular teacher. He went to the board, used his elbow and fingers like a compass and drew a perfect circle in two swipes of the chalk (we thought he was some kind of Math superhero). After he retired, I encountered him at a mall booth, where he was preparing personal tax returns. My positive experience with Mr. Isaak was part of my inspiration to become an accountant and, later, a teacher. - Posted by: Dan Torbiak (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2019

  • Mr Isaak was my favourite math teacher at WKCI in the early 1960s. He made trigonometry/algebra/geometry fun. He challenged and encouraged me. He was a very inspirational teacher. - Posted by: Myrna McGregor nee Schultz (Former student) on: Oct 19, 2019

  • Mr Issac was my principal in 1972. RIP to a great principal Condolences to all his family. - Posted by: Lorraine Bryck (Former student) on: Oct 19, 2019

  • Peter was my first principal at West Kildonan. I remember his love of teaching, his honesty an his encouragement to me as a young new teacher. - Posted by: Paul Stewart (Teacher colleague) on: Oct 19, 2019
