EUNICE HEMBROFF
February 12, 1915 - Stonehaven, Scotland
October 7, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta
Eunice was born in Stonehaven, Scotland, the third child of John William and Margaret Craig (Main) Cran. Soon after, on the dangerous seas of the First World War, the family returned to Winnipeg. And so began Eunice's long life.
In 1939, she married Sam Hembroff, who was employed by the Royal Bank. Shortly after daughter Marnie was born, the family was transferred to Wawanesa. They acquired dog, Jiggs, and settled into small town life, which city girl Eunice relished. When Sam retired, he and Eun moved back to Winnipeg and eventually to Calgary.
Eunice was noted for her generosity, fine singing voice, athletic ability, community service, beauty, sense of style and spritz of Shalimar. She enjoyed the cottage, travelling the world with Sam, cards and games with family, baking cookies all year, but especially at Christmas, needlework, picnics and beach walks. She loved to support her family in any way she could. Her distinctive laugh and sense of fun followed her everywhere, garnering her many friends.
Eunice will be missed by her daughter Marnie and son-in-law Wally Sholdice; granddaughters, Jennie (Robb) Shipley, Erin (Joe) Payne, Meg (Grant) Farhall; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Wil Shipley, Sam and Jack Payne, Suzanna Farhall; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Samuel Weir Hembroff; siblings, Jack (Kay) Cran, Anna (Don) McLean; in-laws, Jean (Jack) MacDonald, Skook (Irene) Hembroff, and nephew Bruce MacDonald.
A private family memorial will be held in the coming days. Condolences may be forwarded at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Wawanesa Community Foundation, Wawanesa, MB R0K 2G0.
The family wish to thank all the staff at Carewest Glenmore, especially the Pumphill nursing unit, for their exceptional care of Eunice.
A tree will be planted in living memory of
Eunice Hembroff.
