RAYMOND BISSON
RAYMOND BISSON
We are sad to announce the passing of Raymond Bisson in the early hours of October 20, 2019 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Raymond was born on June 19, 1944 in Dunrea, Manitoba, a second son to the late Alfred and Annette (Boucher) Bisson.
For 51 years he was a beloved husband and partner in all matters to Lorraine (Laurin). He was the pillar in the lives of his children - Colin (Heather and Brady), Martin and Mélanie; a cherished grandfather to Abrielle, Alexei, Maya, Cazmira and Epiphanie. He also leaves behind a brother Laurent, an extended family (brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins), co-workers, community members and countless friends who enjoyed his companionship and his mischievousness.
Raymond was educated, elementary to university, in various St. Boniface institutions. Despite being away from a farming community at an early age, he never lost his appreciation for the Manitoba countryside. He remained committed to his French Canadian heritage and the industrious work ethic he received from his parents.
Raymond championed education, French language, human rights and community service locally, provincially and nationally. His effectiveness at getting the job done drew on his numerous qualities: a sharp wit, a keen intellect, a master with words, a tenacious spirit and when needed, an amazing physical strength. He was equally at ease in a classroom or a boardroom as he was with a chain saw or a canoe. We will find the essence of his spirit at the cottage that he so lovingly built with the help of family and friends.
Raymond leaves a legacy of love, devotion and joie de vivre to his many friends, former students and colleagues, to members of La Brigade de la Rivière Rouge, as well as the community at large and to all those who loved and respected him.
Thank you to all those who have reached out to Raymond and family to help and console us. Special appreciation to family physician Dr. Roxanne Beaudette. We wish to acknowledge the expertise and compassion of the Emergency room staff, the W.R.H.A. Home Care and Palliative Care programs.
In keeping with his faith, funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 avenue de la Cathédrale, with eulogy at 1:00 p.m. and funeral mass commencing at 1:30 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to donate to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Program, C1026-409 Taché Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 (204-237-2067) or to Francofonds Inc., 101-205 boulevard Provencher, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G4 (204-237-5852).

Oh my goodness, Lorraine!! How you will miss him. We sincerely pray for strength at this time and please accept our condolences and pass on the same to your family on our behalf. Raymond was truly a born leader and has left his mark on every life he touched. Lucille and I were so honoured to share a meal and reminisce with you both in Brandon this past May. Just heard of Ray's passing today (Nov. 10) and so sorry we were not there to offer support at his funeral. We were in California visiting our family there and just heard from colleague and classmate Robert Roy of Ray's passing. We will be in touch!! - Posted by: Denis Rondeau (friend, classmate) on: Nov 10, 2019

Raymond served on the Board for the Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba. He was a diligent participant as a member of the RTAM Benefits Committee and laterally in 2019 filled in as Treasurer of the organization. He was a conscientious contributor sharing kindness and insight from both his past and current enriching experiences. Indeed he was a gentleman and a pleasure to work with; we shall miss the value of his presence. Our deepest sympathy to all his beloved family. May he Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Pat Bowslaugh (Friend in the Retired Teachers’Association of MB) on: Oct 29, 2019

Only having had a handful of occasions to meet Raymond, his warm welcome and his humour was evidence of the good person he was.
