NELL DODDS
Born in 1925 and raised in Toronto, Nellie Patricia (Morris) was the last of her generation. Nell leaves to cherish her memory sons, George (Mary) and Graham (Leslie); daughter Julie; and her beloved grandchildren, Callum, Clare and Ella. She is in the hearts of her niece Patricia (Lloyd and great-niece Charlene); nephew Joe (Patricia); and friend Tom (Bob). She was predeceased by her husband Glen; father Reginald; mother Margaret; brothers, George and Russell; and sisters, Eva, Mary and Ada.
As a young girl, Nell saw the hardships of the Depression and war. She remembered the extra place that was always set at home for anyone needing a meal or shelter. In better times, as the youngest of six, life was an adventure as she tagged along with her brothers and sisters. In early married life, Nell, Glen and their newborn moved to Winnipeg for work. Nell loved Winnipeg and was an active supporter of her adopted city.
Nell's gift which she gave and received was friendship. It took many forms. It was lifelong friends she made on Ash Street, or at Clearwater Bay, or in her work at the Misericordia Hospital. It was the many young people who surrounded her, drawn by her unconditional acceptance and down-to-earth guidance that was more lived than spoken. It was the people at Shalom Gardens where she lived later in life, where her door was always open and the laughter was endless. It was the bridge community, where she played a game she loved, with so many friends. It was strangers who immediately saw a kindred spirit and opened up to her without hesitation.
All these people saw in Nell her sense of adventure, her ageless spirit, her faith that things always work out for the best, and her ability to turn a conversation into a joyous event that left us happy and hopeful. She seemed forever young. As a result, her life and our lives were rich.
The family thanks Dr. M. Evans and Dr. B. Sharkey for years of care, and the staff at West Park Manor for their care over this past year.
Friends and family are invited to an informal gathering on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Shalom Gardens, 360 Wilton St. Enter off Grant Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined.

I too will see Mrs Dodds through the eyes of a child as my sister mentions. The Dodds household was always a welcome place and she was very kind and friendly towards all of the Ash Street kids. My condolences and warmest good wishes to Graham, George and Julie and the extended Dodds family. - Posted by: Paul McCrea (Family friend - ash street gang) on: Oct 28, 2019

I will always see "Mrs. Dodds" through the eyes of a child, or as Graham or Julie's babysitter. I have so many memories of Ash Street and George, Graham and Julie. Mr. Dodds. I wish I had known Mrs. Dodds was at West Park because I work next door! My love goes out to the family. - Posted by: Susanne McCrea McGovern (Family friend) on: Oct 27, 2019
