November 9, 1965 - October 15, 2019
Family and friends are left with a deep void in the passing of Bruce on October 15, 2019. With his wife at his side he bounced from loving words to sarcasm and wit until his very last moment.
Bruce was a proud Icelandic with a huge heart that started from the moment he entered this world and stayed true to himself always. He was a giver. He gave of himself to anyone who crossed his path and left an impression everywhere. His crazy, zany spirit and sarcastic sense of humour made him the light in every room he entered.
Early days were spent surrounded by siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles and he fondly shared tales of summers in Gimli and large family dinners on Sundays. Specifically those summers where the cousins were stacked like cord wood to fit in the tiny cabin.
Bruce craved adventure and travelled as often as possible to anywhere the mood struck him. A backpack and plane ticket was all he needed for the chance to experience something new.
Along came Jenny and soon he was married and blessed with two beautiful daughters, Claire and Sadie. He settled into family life as if it was his true purpose on earth. He adored his girls and devoted his time, attention and infinite love into nurturing them to become the incredible young women of today. When they parted ways Bruce and Jenny remained friends and were committed to raising their girls together.
Bruce found love again when he met Shelyna and before long his family became six. His heart was so big that accepting her children, Rayne and Lachlan, into his arms was just as easy as loving his own girls. Bruce cherished his wife and together the adventures continued. The summers at the cabin by the lake was his happy place and he would chant "Camp Camp Camp" every time they drove down the road and he always found peace in the nature and beauty there.
At every opportunity he continued to seek out time with his large family of parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. Together they gave new meaning to mockery and the entertainment was endless.
Bruce loved deeply and completely and the sudden loss of his mother broke his heart. We take comfort knowing that he is by her side giving her every ounce of his love and sarcasm.
Please join us in celebrating Bruce's life at our party that will be held at the Lake of the Woods Brewing Company on October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Kenora, Ontario.
The family is requesting donations in Bruce's memory. They can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation – Education.
BARBARA ANN STEFANSSON
(nee JOHNSON)
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Amma, Lang Amma, sister and auntie. Mom went peacefully on the morning of October 11, 2019, with her beloved husband Len by her side.
Barbara was born November 5, 1933 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Albert and Nellie Johnson (nee McSkimmings) of Toronto Street. The oldest of The Johnson girls, she became caregiver for her younger sisters after the unexpected passing of her dad, Albert in 1950. Her mom opened Nell's Flower Shop at that time and all the girls pitched in, in the following years. Barb was a natural caregiver and short years later married and started her own family.
Gifted with a huge heart she delighted in her large family and circle of friends. She loved Sunday dinners and special events. All were welcome and the table often was surrounded by not just friends and family, but her children's tag-alongs.
Her children were her proudest achievement and that pride quickly rolled on down to her grandchildren and great-grand-children. Pretty sure she had the fastest draw of the Granny Brag Book ever. That joy and pride was not just reserved for her own children, but her many nieces and nephews, and their children. To be honest, if you were a child that entered her orbit, you were doted upon and more than likely your picture was either in her purse or on her fridge.
Barb is survived by her husband Len; sons, Leonard, Kevin (Lori), Gordon (Jayne) and Bruce (Shelyna); and daughter Signy (Scott). Grandchildren, Jason, Ashleigh, Ainsley, Jennifer (Jeff), Stephanie (Chris), Kristin (Carmine), Jeffrey, Lys, Taylor, Josh, James, Claire, Rayne, Sadie and Lachlan. Great-grandchildren, Aiden, Sophia, Ella, Cooper and Nolan, and a plethora of nieces, nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her parents, many aunts and uncles, in-laws and daughter-in-law Carla.
A celebration of her life will be held in Winnipeg at a future date.
She loved and was loved by so many people and will be missed by all.
