PATRICIA GERALDINE BALCAEN
Pat was born in Winnipeg on February 12, 1935, to Adelard and Florence Balcaen of Dauphin, Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her mom and dad; brother George; and stepmother Sylvia.
She is survived by sister Joan Adams of Thunder Bay; and sister-in-law Mackie Balcan of Montreal. Auntie Pat will be lovingly missed by her nieces and nephews, Kathy (Keith), Michael (Julie), Jennifer
(Jean-Christopher), Greg (Sam), Stephen (Maureen) and Julie (John); along with 12 grandnieces and grandnephews. Their lives have been touched by her humour, big laugh, crazy gifts, great cooking, storytelling and love she showered on them during her visits to Thunder Bay and theirs to her little yellow home in Winnipeg.
Pat loved to travel and enjoyed close friendships from her banking and insurance days. She will be remembered and missed by her friends and neighbours, Russell, Bernie and Lorna, Chris, Lauren and Jessica, Cara and family, Edie, Linda and Penny. She had a love of cats which shone through in her volunteer work with the Winnipeg Humane Society. She used her experience with pain to help others better understand fibromyalgia, volunteering with the Fibromyalgia Society of Winnipeg.
Her family wish to thank the staff of Riverview for their compassionate, fine care of our aunt. Her friend Penny's love and amazing help to her over the last several years is beyond description. Pat would not have been able to remain in her beloved home for as long as she did without Penny's assistance.
In memory of Patricia, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society and/or the Fibromyalgia Support Group.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Winnipeg next spring or summer.
Pat, you will be missed!

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)
Pat had a quick wit and amazing sense of humour. She would share with me her life stories and stories about her family. She will be fondly remembered and missed dearly. My condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Rhonda (Friend ) on: Nov 10, 2019
I have known Pat for nearly 40 years and had worked in the office in real estate where she did the real estate thing for awhile, then went into insurance and found her niche!! She and I shared a love of cats and the outdoors. I remember making her a macramé window blind, back in the day. She was ever so appreciative. Condolences to the family and friends. Rest in peace Pat. - Posted by: Trudy Johnson (friend, work associate) on: Nov 05, 2019
I went to The Dauphin Collegiate with Pat. I remember her as a member of the 'popular' group. At our school dances and young peoples dances (which were held on the 2nd floor of the Legion, George was the disc jockey), I always would try to get to dance with Pat as she made me think that I was a good dancer. From the obit it seems to me she had not married. I am sure that with her demeanor she would have been an an ideal partner, My sincere condolences to the family and those friends that were close to her RIP Patricia - Posted by: Robert Bull (School classmate) on: Nov 04, 2019
My mom, Patricia MacKay, was good friends with “Auntie Pat” as I knew her. I remember crib games and lots of laughter at the old cottage at Victoria Beach in the summers when I was a kid. Later as an adult, I looked forward to Auntie Pat’s visits to Astra CU on Grant where I worked and her infectious sense of humour to lighten my day. When my mom died in 2011, I looked to Auntie Pat for stability and a sense of familiarity. I live a long way from Winnipeg now, but even from Panama, she will be greatly missed. She was a great person to many humans and cats. - Posted by: James Foster (Family Friend ) on: Nov 03, 2019
