MARTHA ELVIRA JONES
(nee PETERSON)

It is with heavy hearts, but with fond memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Martha, on October 25, 2019, at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her husband Wallace, after 56 years of marriage; by her parents, Edward and Katherine Peterson; by her siblings, Lily Dancyt, Art Peterson and Clara Campbell. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Marlene (Nick); son Murray; grandchildren, Blair, Corey (Kelly), Brittany (Dan) and Jessica; great-granddaughters, Caitlin (Jeremy) and Kayla; and great-great-granddaughter Lilah.
Martha was born on December 29, 1926 in Bird River, MB, where she was raised and attended school. She had fond memories of those days and many interesting stories to tell. At age 16 she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Reidel's Brewery, where she met Dad, after he came home from Europe when the Second World War ended. They married in 1946 and soon started their family. Mom excelled as a homemaker, wife and a caring mother. In 1963 she started fulltime work as a clerk with Gambles and eventually retired as a department manager with Zellers, in 1987.
Mom had a very active life with Dad and her family. Her greatest pleasure was spending time at her cottage at Bird River, where she and her family enjoyed swimming, boating, waterskiing and playing games. Mom also experienced many wonderful travels across Canada and the United States, with Hawaii being her favourite destination. During the last 17 years Mom could always be seen with her constant companion, a Shih Tzu puppy named Sheba, that was given to her by her niece Lorraine, in Calgary.
We would like to thank Dr. F. Sikora and Michelle for their many years of providing Mom with exceptional medical care.
In accordance with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
She loved and was loved by so many people and will be missed by all.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was saddened to learn of Mrs. Jones' passing. I have many fond memories of her. I was a childhood friend of Marlene, my brother a friend of Murray. Mrs. Jones always welcomed us lovingly into her home. She was one of the kindest and sweetest persons I have ever known. It was apparent that her greatest joy was in the relationships she shared with her family. I know she will be sorely missed. Please accept my sincere condolences. - Posted by: Joanne Martin (nee Bollenback) (friend of Marlene) on: Nov 02, 2019
