TED HECHTER

Dr. Ted Hechter died suddenly but peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.
He was the much loved husband of Gail Margolis Hechter, loving father of Cheryl Hechter and Doron Raphaeli, Ben and Penny Hechter, Joel Hechter and Yasamine Jacobs, and adored grandfather of Mor, Eden, Sam and Darwin. He was Uncle Teddy to his treasured nieces and nephews and many of their friends. He was the last surviving member of the six children of Benjamin and Rose Hechter.
As a professional, he was seen by his patients to be the "dentist who explained everything, was gentle and made you feel safe". To this day they remained his friends. His peers recognized his professional ability and integrity and selected him for membership in the Pierre Fouchard Society, and International College of Dentists.
Ted loved life and people, and they returned his love. His quest for knowledge was ongoing, whether in pursuit of his interests in art, music, theatre, history, politics or current affairs. Puzzles, reading, sculpting and drawing were his hobbies. Travel was his joy. His most recent vacation in August to the Maritimes with his entire family was the ultimate trip for him, as those people most important to him were all together.
Having lived a long, meaningful and fulfilling life to the age of 89, he will be remembered as a quiet, caring, generous and loving person. His smile, and sparkling eyes will never be forgotten.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My thoughts and prayers are with Drs. Neil, Evan and Myles Margolis. Dr. Weidman was recommended by Dr. (Philip) Katz's daughter Jennifer when she was my Teacher Aide when I was in grade two because I was having a symptomatic condition (disappeared) that other doctors couldn't catch. It was nice to have Jennifer (now Dr. Katz) as my respite worker and for her to observe me outside of school and respite care while she worked with me in grade three as well when I needed it most. - Posted by: Philip (Former patient of Dr. Weidman) on: Nov 13, 2021

  • I met Dr. and Mrs. Hechter when they were dining out at my workplace with my former high school psychologist Linda Schwartz and her husband Bill. I always refer to Linda because of her dialogue. - Posted by: Philip (Aquaintance) on: Jan 29, 2020
