Date of Passing: Oct 26, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD THOMAS (TOM) MOODY
It is with deep regret that I have to tell my family, friends and creditors, in as much as Grandmother Moody had 18 siblings, most of whom settled in Manitoba, there must be hundreds of distant relatives out there somewhere, I will not be answering my phone anymore as I have passed away October 26, 2019 while residing at Thorvaldson Care Centre in Winnipeg, MB.
I am survived by my daughter Carole Sundin (Brooke), Langley, BC, my son Alan Moody (Corinne), Boissevain, MB and my daughter Joanne Moody, Edmonton, AB, my granddaughters Theresa Clarke (Sam), Katherine Poulin (Leo), Alannah Moody, and great-granddaughter Amelia Mary Clarke, as well as my stepfamily, Valerie Price (Bill), David Price, Martin Sundland (Anja) and Jeannine Sundland and her son Morgan.
I was predeceased by my parents, Harry and Vera Moody, my first wife Shirley Mary Moody and our son Gordon, and my second wife Daphne Price.
I was born in Selkirk, MB August 9, 1926. I was home schooled at Denare Beach, SK and attended high school in Selkirk, MB. I was asked to be a guest of the King and Canada in 1945, and the day I started training Germany heard I was coming and surrendered that same day. I attended the University of Manitoba and graduated January 1961 as a Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA).
I started paying Income Tax in 1947, while employed as a summer student for Noranda Mining Company. In 1948 I started learning to be a printing press operator at Advocat Printers in Winnipeg. In 1952 I started employment with the CNR payroll department and in February 1959 moved to International Nickel Company (INCO) in Thompson, MB, retiring in March 1986.
During the many moons of my life, I was a volunteer fireman in high school in Selkirk, a founding member of the Thompson Volunteer Fire Department, as well as being associated with the Fire Department at INCO. I also found time to be a founding member of St. John's United Church in Thompson and was a brother in St. John's Ambulance and a Free Mason.
I wish to say a great "thank you" to my family, stepfamily, my great friends, Phyllis and Vince Sabatino, and my many other friends for their support and friendship in helping a senior citizen through his many stages in life.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society I know that it will be appreciated, thank you.
In closing I would like to refer you to Tennyson's Poem...
Crossing The Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea.
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the
boundless deep Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For though from out our bourne of
Time and Place The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.
- Alfred Lord Tennyson

Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and though We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. - Posted by: Craig Sharpe (friend) on: Nov 05, 2019

Sincere condolences to Tom's entire family and all his friends. Tom was always a very dedicated supporter of the Northern Gateway Museum at Denare Beach. He believed in continuing that strong relationship with our museum and in that way assisted in furthering the legacy of his Father and Mother who started the museum in about 1957. We have all lost a true friend and we know that he is resting at peace. - Posted by: LES OYSTRYK (FRIEND) on: Nov 05, 2019

The world has lost a truly compassionate and caring man - a man with a gentle wit and true sense of humour. Tom is my Mom (Helen Ruth's) cousin and both he and Daphne were a kind source of companionship and support for her, both during her independent life and her remaining years in care. Thank you. You will be missed. - Posted by: Inez Kosinski (cousin) on: Nov 04, 2019

My sincerest condolences to Carol, Alan, Joanne and all of Tom’s dear friends & family. I was fortunate to know Tom during my years in Thompson, especially as a friendly neighbour at our Paint Lake cabin. He was a kind, gentle, Prince of a Man. Condolences to all Tom’s family. We remember him well as a wonderful man and good friend to our mom and dad, John and Marion Wakefield. Marion, who is now 97 years old, has kept in touch with him through the years. We were cottage neighbours at Paint Lake and have many fond memories with the Moody family. RIP Tom, you will be missed. My deepest condolences to Carol, Alan and Joanne and all your families on the loss of Tom. A big man in so many ways. Of formidable stature, but also a big smile, laugh and most importantly a big heart. I have so many fond memories growing up next door to Tom and the Moodys. I always saw him as a strict, but fair father. He was so handy and creative. He was an involved community member, as voiced by others here, but family was first in my view. He was a good and kind friend to my parents, Tom and Moira, staying in close touch all these many years. To Carole, Alan and Joanne, I wish you peace and send positive thoughts and hope that in your grief, you will take solace in the fact that you had a great man in your lives. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: David Norquay (Neighbour and family friend) on: Nov 02, 2019

I know my Mom (Helen) had many special memories of her cousin Tom when they were both growing up. When Tom moved to Winnipeg and married Daphne they became close and cherished friends to my Mom. My partner and I enjoyed several Christmas and birthday dinners and other celebrations with them. I will always be especially grateful for the love, kindness and support they generously gave to Mom in the later years of her life after she suffered a debilitating stroke. Such good and kind souls. - Posted by: Garry Robinson (Son of cousin Helen Ruth) on: Nov 02, 2019

When my Mom Helen Ruth was in a care facility for the last years of her life, Tom and Daphne loved her well and gave sacrificiously in the time they spent with her. They put a smile on her face always. - Posted by: Donna Brooks (Distant cousin) on: Nov 02, 2019

I met Tom in July 2018 when my parents moved to Thorvaldson’s, the best care home available. Tom lived next door to my dad so I greeted him every day. He had told me that he had lived there for over 6 years. We spoke often about Thompson as I used to travel there for work. His embroidery was incredible. I am so honoured to have met this wonderful man. RIP. Brigitte DeLeeuw, friend - Posted by: Brigitte DeLeeuw (Friend) on: Nov 02, 2019
