BERNHARD COENRAAD SOLLEVELD

It is with regret we announce the passing of Bernhard Coenraad Solleveld on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 77 years.
Left to survive Bernhard are his brother Arnie and sister-in-law Norma Solleveld of Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Johannes and Ella; sister Ellie; and brothers, Ed and Tim.
Bernhard was born in Monster, The Netherlands on April 24, 1942. His family immigrated to Canada in 1953, moving to a farm near Portage La Prairie - as many immigrant families were required to do. After a couple of years, the Solleveld family eventually settled in Winnipeg, on Kingsbury Avenue.
Bernhard spent his working days at Kays Distributing. He loved his walks in Kildonan Park while living on Kingsbury Avenue and later when he moved to 601 Osborne, he spent time walking and bike riding and bussing around the city. Bernhard enjoyed his volunteer time with his brother Arnie with Meals on Wheels. He loved taking pictures, reading, stamp and coin collecting. In the last few years he loved his morning walks to the local McDonalds to chat with his friends over coffee and a muffin and spent many hours talking about current events. Bernhard loved his documentaries on the National Geographic and History channel, and he found great humour in Carol Burnett and Jerry Seinfeld. Another favourite pastime was listening to music from his extensive collection. Bernhard was more of a solitary soul, who enjoyed the company of others for a short time and would always retreat to the privacy of his own humble abode.
A celebration of Bernhard's life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Osborne McDonalds. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army.
