MAXINE GUDNASON
(nee SCOTT)
1933 - 2019

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the quiet and peaceful passing of our dear mother Maxine Gudnason (nee Scott) on October 22, 2019.

Mom gave her heart to God and she waited
patiently to be called to her heavenly home
and now her life journey is complete.

Mom was the youngest of four children born to Thomas and Lottie (Lacquement) Scott on their farm south of Birch River in the municipality of Minitonas, Manitoba in 1933. In the late 1940s they moved to Flin Flon where she attended Hapnot School. Later she married and lived in Selkirk, Brandon and Winnipeg. She moved to Bethel Place in 2006 where she enjoyed much kindness and many friendships.
Left to cherish her love and memories are her three children: Ferne Gudnason of Mirror, AB, Charlene (Jim) of Winnipeg and Lawrence (Cynthia); as well as grandson Jared (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Kailie, Kaden, Kyler; and grandsons, William (Megan) and Arthur (Melissa), along with many nieces and nephews and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Mom was predeceased by her parents and three siblings: Maynard, Don and Rosemary (Law).
Mom worked at Meadowood Manor, a seniors and personal care facility where she enjoyed many long lasting friendships with her co-workers.
Mom really enjoyed recipe books and cooking. She loved baking and giving away tasty goodies, especially her specialties: vinarterta, Icelandic brown bread, cinnamon buns and her special Christmas peanut brittle. Mom looked forward each month to the potluck gatherings with her group in Selkirk and her special friendship with Eleanor Epp.
She loved butterflies and had many lovely violets and plants. She liked to watch nature, animal and cooking programs.
We would like to thank the remarkable staff of the Grace Hospital for their tender and professional care of mom during her last days.
A special thank you goes to Pastor Jake Froese and family for all the help and support over the years to mom and for keeping her in their thoughts and prayers.
Cremation has taken place. A small family funeral will be held and a private interment will be at a later date. Thank you to Voyage Funeral Home.

Mom walked closely with the Lord
throughout her life. Her faith remained
strong till the Lord took her home
where we know she'll be waiting.

  • My condolences to Maxine's family and friends. I had the privilege of working with Maxine at Meadowood Manor and have many fond memories of those years. My family was on the receiving end of many of her delicious baked goodies and our personal favourites were her vinarterta and peanut brittle. Her generosity and kind heartedness will always be remembered. - Posted by: Eleanore Verplaetse (Former Meadowood Manor co-worker) on: Nov 02, 2019
