EDWIN WILLIAM TOEWS
Dad was born in Kronsgart, Manitoba on September 10, 1934. He began his adult life as a pipeline welder and after buying a farm in Roland in 1961, added farmer to his resume. He balanced the two careers, working across Canada, and growing grain, for most of his working life until retirement at 65, at which point enjoying the summer place at Pye's Landing, Lake of the Woods became a six months of the year job. He and mom were only finally convinced to take on a life of leisure and move off the farm earlier this year, moving into Winnipeg this past August.
Dad was an accomplished musician on a wide variety of instruments as well as a genius at creating useful farm tools and repairing equipment for neighbours far and wide. He loved to improve things, we call it "Ed-ifying". Over the years he enjoyed many pastimes besides mechanics: curling, snowmobiling, travel, fishing and boating, and in his later years was a voracious reader on his iPad. He will always be remembered for his stories, his laugh, his enduring love and appreciation for mom and his creation of the pumpkin statue that stands at the entrance to Roland.
We would like to thank the staff of the Parkway Retirement Community and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their professionalism, care and compassion, as well as our many friends, family and the "Tribe" for their support and love.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family memorial.
