ELSIE ELLEN DUYNISVELD
(nee HARASYMEC)
July 1, 1939 - November 1, 2019

Peacefully on November 1, 2019, Elsie was finally able to go home.
Wife, best friend and dance partner to Bill for over 56 years. Mom to Gerry and Rita (McKay), Sandra and Allen (Garinger) and Janice and Graeme (Bidewell). Grandma to Katie, Laura (Alex), Steve (Jessica) and Cole (Taiya). Sister to Eugene and Carolyn Harasymec. Sister-in-law to Lenie Roks, Cathy Flegel, Len and Linda Duynisveld and Joe Swinkels. Auntie to numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary Mom, Grandma and Auntie to many of our friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Nellie Harasymec (Winzinowich); in-laws, Paul and Truus Duynisveld, Corry and John Vander Loo, Gerry and Corrie Duynisveld, Case and Bernice Duynisveld, John Roks, Bill Flegel and Margaret Swinkels.
Mom was raised on the family farm in Cooks Creek, MB where she learned about hard work and the good fortune of being with family and friends. She received her teaching certificate and her first posting was a one room school in Rossdale, MB. Later, she taught at elementary schools in Transcona. Former students would still recognize her even though she only taught until 1968 - a sign of making a difference in someone's life.
Elsie and Bill met at St. Mary's Cathedral C.Y.O. in 1961 and were married on July 13, 1963. They made their home in Transcona where they enjoyed being together whether it was gardening or taking a turn around the kitchen when a good polka or waltz came on the radio. Having family together was always important to Mom. Whether it was just us kids or the 25+ people on Christmas Eve or Easter morning - Mom was happiest seeing everyone together. Her faith was important to her and was involved with numerous committees at Blessed Sacrament Parish where she developed many lasting friendships.
Despite dealing with dementia for the last few years, music, dancing, visiting with family and friends (Friday night card games with Auntie Stella), and always being with Bill brought smiles and a sense of peace to Mom.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE,
MY ONLY SUNSHINE.

Funeral service has been held with interment to follow at a later date. Honorary pallbearers were Katie and Laura Garinger, Steve and Cole Duynisveld, Nic and Graham Suggitt.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

  • Dear Uncle Bill, Gerald, Sandra, Janice and families, Please accept our deepest sympathies and condolences regarding Auntie Elsie's passing. We apologize that we did not make it out from Hong Kong to Winnipeg for the service. My Mom said it was a very nice tribute to Auntie Elsie and that Stephen provided a wonderful Eulogy. I look back fondly to the wonderful times and memories at Cooks Creek playing baseball, having a campfire barbeque and cannot forget the awfully out of tune but most enjoyable sing a longs we had with all of you. The Boxing Day family get togethers at your house also bring a big smile to my face. Your wife and mom was and remains a very special person and a wonderful lady that never had anything bad to say about anyone, always had time for you to ask how you were doing and was quick of wit. Auntie Elsie is in a better place now and please take some solace in knowing this. We wish you comfort in this time of sorrow and please know that our warmest regards and kind thoughts are with you all. • Mrs Duynisveld was my grade 3 teacher at Wayota. It was 1967 and my first year in Transcona. I remember to this date that I sat in the class and was in awe staring at my favourite teacher. To this day she is and always will be my favourite. Sad to here about her passing way too young. She will continue teaching in heaven.
