EILEEN MADDEN

Eileen Madden died peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Julia and Michael Madden, her sisters, Mary and Brigid, and her brothers, John and Dave. She is survived by her sister Sheila, her much loved niece Genevieve, and her cherished nephews: Michael, Patrick, David, Jean Pierre and their families.
Born, 1930 in Tipperary, Ireland, the fourth child in a growing family, Eileen immigrated to Canada at the tender age of four months. She began her education in the local school at Arran, Saskatchewan and completed Senior Matriculation (Grade XII) at Kelwood Consolidated School, Manitoba.
Eileen, a graduate of Misericordia School of Nursing (RN), completed post graduate studies both in Operating Room Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. She experienced a broad range of nursing situations in Canada, US and Germany, serving, in addition to bedside nursing, as Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, as well as Work Study Analysis (accredited through Manitoba Institute of Management) and Director of Administration Division (Certification: Health Care Administration, University of Saskatchewan). Always loyal to her Alma Mater, Eileen returned frequently to Misericordia Hospital to contribute her knowledge of innovations in nursing and to reconnect with family and friends.
Following her early retirement from the nursing profession, Eileen provided 'a life worth living' to her aging mother. Always open to adventure, when that service was no longer needed, she joined her sister Sheila serving as a missionary on Union Island (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) in the Caribbean.
Diagnosed with vascular dementia, Eileen was accepted as a resident at Deer Lodge Centre in 2013. Her family is most grateful for the quality of care and compassion she received. In addition to the Centre's staff, Tracey Goodman served as an independent companion to Eileen for the last four plus years. Tracey's fidelity to Eileen was remarkable. Eileen had an innate ability to endear herself to others and this ability continued even amid the ravages of such an unkind disease.
Eileen was very central to the life of her family and we believe, in death, she was enthusiastically welcomed 'home' by those who have gone before her.
Mass of Christian Burial for Eileen will be celebrated on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with Father Sam Argenziano, a special family friend, presiding. The family will receive greetings beginning at 10:15 a.m.; eulogy offered at 10:45 a.m.; Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the small hall in the basement of Holy Rosary Church. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured by donations to Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 9L3.
