Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I first met Russell at 45th anniversary of Garden City Mall when he played there in 2015. After watching his concert at center court I fell in love with his music. We met after for coffee and connected right away after I had mentioned I shoot video and photos for various events I attend. Over the next four years I would record his concerts, take photos and after him giving me his CD's to promote him. I even took many of his 3 CDs to Hollywood and shared his music with staff of Beverly Hills Hotel and many other Americans I met along my travels. When the Jets were in the playoffs and staging whiteout events I connected with Russell asking if he like to support a project by a Jets Fan online who was raising awareness and support for Main Street Project, he did not hesitate offering $100 gift card so that they could have a party for residents of the project. He then gave another $100 gift card so that we could purchase Jets T-shirts and party favours for their party. At the Goldeyes Game in the summer I met Russell's extended family and welcomed them to our city and gave few special pins to them. Russell had mentioned a few months back that he ever got big he would take me open road trip so I could record and promote his concerts in various cities. He announced on Leanne Caters Qx104 podcast he had planned one on road to Ottawa and trip to Europe. He was a kind, compassionate and caring man who I will never forget. On many occasions he would offer me an envelope thanking me for my time and passion to promote him and his music. He had inserted an honorarium in the envelope. Many times he would offer me T-shirts, ball caps and his 4 CDs to distribute. When I was mentioning I bought a 4K camera and on my way to buy a 4K TV they had on sale at his store the last words he texted to me was COOL. He was always positive, supportive and considerate man. I will dearly miss him but I have his clothing to wear and music to keep great memories of him. - Posted by: Barry Kopulos (friend and client) on: Nov 25, 2019

  • My wife Joanne and I knew Russell from playing badminton at the Wpg Winter Club. We played many spirited games 15 or more years ago. Russell as many would agree was an extremely gifted athlete. Our sincerest condolences to his family at this very sad time. RIP my friend. W & J Jury - Posted by: Wayne W. Jury (Friend) on: Nov 22, 2019
