As a young girl Mum acquired the nickname "Tooey" and was known by that name by family and many friends. Mum met Dad upon his return from war. They were married on November 11, 1946. After several moves throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the family settled in their Charleswood dream home in 1966 where Mum's gardening skills flourished. Family and friends meant everything to Mum. Everyone was always welcome in their home. Mum was awarded the Commemorative Medal for 125th Anniversary of Confederation in 1992 for her extensive community service. Mum was also proud to receive her 70 year pin from the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Coodin, CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Care, Victoria General Hospital medical team and all the amazing home care workers who helped Mum maintain her independent life at The Wellington Retirement Residence.
The celebration of Mum's life will take place at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., on Friday, November 29, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall.

We moved to Pepperloaf Crescent in 1980, and within 20 minutes had met our new neighbours, Myrt and Bob. We had only four years there, but it seemed much longer, as although our ages were different, it seemed it mattered little to the depth of the friendship we had. Our 3 year old daughter imprinted on Uncle Bob like a duckling to a mother duck, and Myrt became the confidant all great friends are, especially to Donna. There are too many stories to relate here. The best one is the time Myrt intervened to tell some natives to stay away from the sports car stored in our driveway, only to discover they were the owners of the car, and had come to pick it up. I'm pretty sure the next call would have been to the police. Lovely people, in every way, we shed a tear now at their passing, but also appreciate their example of how to live well. Deepest sympathies to the family, your loss is great. Jeff and Donna Christian - Posted by: Jeff and Donna Christian (Friends/Neighbours) on: Dec 03, 2019

Dear Debbie and the entire family, My deepest condolences on the passing of your Mom. Your Mom was surrounded with love from a big family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She gave of herself to her family, her friends, her volunteerism, and to the Legion. She was a frail woman who projected strength and courage everyday and left you all with a host of memories. May those memories give you strength and peace at this difficult time. Fondly, Renee - Posted by: Renee Kaplan (Friend to Debbie) on: Nov 26, 2019
