EDITH MAE SHIELDS
(nee JOHNSON)
January 25, 1950 - November 2, 2019

With great sadness our family announces the sudden passing of Edith Shields.
Edie loved her life growing up on the family farm near Elkhorn. She was known as Edie Mae to the aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents that were part of her world. She was the second of four children born to Tommy and Eileen Johnson.
She moved to Winnipeg to look for work and was soon hired by United Grain Growers. This is where she met Jim Shields whom she married and shared almost 25 years together. She retired from Great-West Life in 2014.
She loved family gatherings. Her specialty for our dinners was sweet potato casserole. She was always interested in her nieces and nephews, Denise, Keith, Shannon, Tommy and Tracy; and their children.
Our hearts were warmed by the words of comfort and compassion expressed to us by Edie's neighbours at the Adamar. It was clear Edie's friendly, gentle demeanour was appreciated by those who crossed paths with her often. Thank you.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Joy (Errol), Della (Fred); and brother Brent (Donna); her nieces and nephews; one great-niece and five great-nephews. She was anticipating another great-nephew in March.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Russ and nephew Keith.
A graveside memorial will take place at a later date in Elkhorn, near her parents.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Della and family, I am so sorry about Edie’s passing. I remember Edie fondly when we all attended the Nazarene Church. Fond memories of spending time together at our Ladies bible study group at Donna’s place as well as other church activities. She was a wonderful woman. May you feel the closeness of God as your strength during this difficult time. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
