ELIZABETH TAYLOR

It is with profound sadness that the family of Elizabeth Taylor announce her passing on November 9, 2019, at age 67.
Elizabeth was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 26, 1952 to parents, Dorothy (nee Rawlinson) and Gabe Taylor, and became big sister to her brother Bruce Taylor, born in 1954. She lived in Winnipeg until 2002, when she moved with her husband and daughters to Lake Oswego, Oregon, for the rest of her life. She died in her beloved home, in the arms of her husband and two daughters.
Elizabeth grew up in River Heights and attended River Heights Jr. High School and Kelvin High School. She attended the University of Manitoba, where she was a proud member of St. John's College and received her degree in religious studies. After graduation, she spent several years working and enjoyed travelling in Europe. In her mid-30s, she met Michael Klachefsky, who she married and had two daughters with; her first daughter born in 1987 named Tess and her second daughter was born in 1989 named Annabelle. Michael brought with him two children from a previous marriage; Morgan and Matthew. Elizabeth took on the role of stepmother to Morgan and Matthew, while also navigating having her own children soon after; she had her hands full! She decided to be a stay-at-home mom, and that became her life's work and biggest accomplishment. She was inspired by her children's adventures and started writing young adult novels to channel her amazing creativity and talent for writing and storytelling. She was known for her gorgeous red hair, kind and charming spirit, and incredible sense of humour.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her loving parents, Dorothy (nee Rawlinson) and Gabe Taylor. She leaves behind her beautiful daughters, Tess (Jordan) and Annabelle (Daniel), devoted husband Michael, step-children, Morgan (Job) and Matthew (Sara), as well their respective children and her grandchildren that she adored, Simon and Moby. Elizabeth was excitedly awaiting the birth of her daughter Tess's first child, a daughter due in March 2020, who will be named Elizabeth, in her honour. Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her brother Bruce (Colleen) Taylor and his four children, her nieces and nephew, Quinn (Anna), Hilary, Hannah and Gabriella. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister-in-law Linda (Robert) and their children, her nephews, David (Sara) and Daniel.
Elizabeth's family will be holding a celebration of her life in the spring at St. George's Anglican Church; details will be provided in early 2020.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Kismet Creek Farm, P.O. Box 95, Steinbach, Manitoba, R5G 1M1, in her honour - an animal sanctuary she loved and supported.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her cherished family and friends.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Liz at U of M through Stef and she was part of my student life. I remember her as stunningly beautiful, kind and of a generosity of spirit and heart. She was a gentle soul, full of courage and grace. She was a loving wife and Mum, and a talented artist. The world is a better place for having her in it. She left us too soon. We who were lucky enough to know her will never forget her. - Posted by: Morag Driscoll (Friend) on: Jan 07, 2020

  • Liz, Leo to me, was a dear childhood friend having grown up together as next door neighbors on Cordova street in Winnipeg. I would have to say she was my "first love". I remember having to defend her a few times in elementary school, because she would get kidded about her frizzy red hair - hence Leo the Lion. I was so corny - I often would carry her books home from school! I am sad she passed away and I will miss the fact that we I will never get to see her again. My condolences to Michael and her daughters. She was a wonderful women who will continue to inspire others. - Posted by: Rick Gilbert (Long time friend) on: Nov 30, 2019
