ELSIE MARY JACKSON
(nee COLLICUTT)

Born January 31, 1926 in Winnipeg, youngest child of Bill and Mary Collicutt, passed away November 25, 2019. Predeceased by her beloved husband Andy, son Rob, her parents, and her two brothers, Bill and George.
Mom was very proud of her West Kildonan roots, growing up on Newton Avenue. Mom talked lovingly of her days skating in Kildonan Park with her best friend Audrey Douglas. Mom went to business school after completing regular school, which led her to her job at Braithwaites where she met the handsome accountant doing the audit, Andy.
Mom and Dad married on June 12, 1948. Brian and Barb were born while they lived on Ingersoll, Rob and Sandra after they moved to Southwood in 1954 - a new suburb in Fort Garry. The Jacksons lived in Fort Garry for the next 50 years.
Mom was always active, enjoying curling at the Winnipeg Winter Club, her volunteer work with the Children's Hospital Foundation, baking or working on St. Agnes Guild's many projects, and enjoying with Andy the many Investors conventions and friendships.
Summers were lovingly spent at Victoria Beach from 1954 until 2009. In winters, after the family was grown, Mom and Dad would love to cruise or visit friends down south.
Mom leaves many happy memories for her son Brian and wife Carolyn of Thornhill, Ontario, daughter Barb and husband Wayne Leslie of Winnipeg, and daughter Sandra and husband Pat Babulic of St. Andrews, Manitoba. Mom had a special place in her heart for her eight grandchildren, Steven Jackson (Jocelyn), Laura (Paul O'Leary), Scott Jackson (Christine), Jennifer Leslie (Ryan Zuk), Andrea Almeida (Sergio), Sarah Leslie, Sean (Sammy) and Jamie Babulic; also her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Connor Zuk, Paige, Lucia and Henry Almeida, Gavin, Tessa and Hayden O'Leary, Owen and Luke Jackson and June Babulic.
Cremation has taken place at Mom's request, with her ashes to be spread at Victoria Beach. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the loving caregivers at Misercordia Health Centre and Misercordia Place. Their music program brought great joy to Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Andrew and Elsie Family Endowment Fund at the Children's Hospital Foundation of Winnipeg or the Misercordia Health Centre Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Elsie and Andy were friends of my parents, Jack and Chris Stewart from our Victoria Beach days, dating from the 1950's and onward. They were original Sunshine Club members and the signed names of the other Sunshiners were written on a piece of birchbark and hung in our 5th Avenue cottage for many yrs. The group included: the Archers, Harold and Betty Brown, Jamie and Eve Brown, my parents, and Elsie and Andy Jackson. And possibly others. The original charter of the Sunshine Club said that their purpose was: "To get together to Spread Sunshine, Merriment and Good Cheer". Basically it meant some really good parties whenever they got together, with a little liquid good-cheer to lubricate the party. I frequently fell asleep in the cottage, as a child, along with my siblings, to a lot + of laughter and good cheer. In our family photo archives is a picture of Elsie from the summer she was expecting Sandra, taken at King Edward Beach. Elsie was a lovely person always. And I have many happy family memories of get togethers of the above mentioned. She is sadly the last one of that Sunshine Club. A generation of friends who are now gone. My condolences to all remaining Jackson family members, on the loss of your fine mother, who the photo above, reminds me of how elegant she was. - Posted by: Catherine Lee (friend through my parents) on: Dec 22, 2019

  • Barb and I became close friends in our teenage years. We spent many happy hours in the Jackson cottage, doing crafts, reading, playing board games and always eating! Mrs. Jackson was so welcoming and fun, keen to hear our stories and adventures, very encouraging, and supportive. She was always laughing, and sharing goofy jokes with us and with Andy. Always well "put-together", pairing her natural beauty with careful grooming, Mrs. Jackson taught me about style for young women, leading by example. She also had great taste in decor in both the lake cottage and their Winnipeg home. Mrs. Jackson trimmed my unruly long hair each summer at their kitchen table for several years, always interested in what I was up to, handling the ongoing commotion of her busy family calmly as if I was the most important thing at the time. I loved her and will never forget. - Posted by: Sheila Grover (family friend) on: Dec 05, 2019

  • Elsie and Andy’s place was a home to many and one of the most welcoming places I’ve known. I, along with my brother Dave were invited over pretty regularly for Sunday meals because we were Sandy’s boyfriend's family and were at university in town. Elsie fed us amazingly well and never seemed bothered by the volume or variety of conversation that three Babulics added to the table. My memories of those Sundays and of every visit I had to the Jackson house are of laughter and joy. - Posted by: Kevin Babulic (Family friend ) on: Dec 03, 2019

  • Elsie and Andy will always hold a special place in my heart. They were such fun-loving generous people and my siblings and I still talk about the good times they shared with our parents, Pat and Paul Leonidas. Hold onto the memories and take good care of yourselves. As my sister, Katherine, stated we share memories of VB, Grey Cup games and visits in Duluth and Florida. Andy used to tease me a lot!!! And I loved it! Elsie’s beauty was magnified by her spirit and love of life. - Posted by: MaryAnne Leonidas Mader (Family friend) on: Dec 03, 2019

  • Much love to all the Jackson's💞 and all who have Elsie in their hearts and minds right now. Elsie is my Aunt: Uncle Andy is my Dad, Denys Stewart's, first cousin. My earliest memories are of being at many family celebrations over the years. Being in awe of their beautiful family. Aunt Elsie had the most beautiful skin and bone structure and I thought she was so glamorous. My favorite memories are of seeing her and Uncle Andy tease one another and laugh. Hugs to you all. - Posted by: Suzanne (Stewart) Morier and Dan Morier (Aunt Elsie) on: Nov 30, 2019

  • Elsie and Andy were life long friends of my parents, Pat and Paul. I recall times at Victoria Beach, Grey Cup games in their basement and a chance encounter in Fort Myers Beach. Although we moved from WInnipeg in 1966, they kept in touch and continued to share fun and laughter. Elsie had an infectious laughter and love of family and friends. - Posted by: Katherine Leonidas (family friend) on: Nov 30, 2019

  • Mrs. Jackson always made me feel so welcome and loved in their home on South Drive and at the cottage at VB. She let me smoke at her house long before my parents let me smoke in theirs! Her and Mr Jackson introduced me to dubonnet and soda. For a few years after my mom passed away on Mother's day Mrs. Jackson let me take her to lunch at Ray and Jerry's. I don't think she ever knew how much that did for me in helping ease the pain of the day. She always called me Jeannie O'Neill...long after I got married and changed my name. She made me a book of her favorite recipes. Today I'll be making pink icing cake. We said good by to you some time ago Mrs Jackson...but now it's for real. Thank you for letting me in to your family - Posted by: Jeannie O'Neill (She was my second mom) on: Nov 30, 2019
