LEOLA COWAN
(nee SVEINSON)
She was born December 9, 1920 in Dafoe, SK and spent most of her younger days growing up in Wynyard, SK. In Dafoe, she met the love of her life and future husband, Hugh Cowan as he was stationed there with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Together, they moved to Winnipeg, MB and grew their family. Affectionately known as Lee to friends and family, and Nana to her beloved grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Leola/Nana was one of a kind, she was a true lady, but a strong one with a mind of her own who wasn't afraid to give you her opinion. She was known as a firecracker with a strong sense of fashion and a love of her close family.
She was predeceased by many family members, notably her husband Hugh; and three older brothers, Leonard, Elmo and Helgi Sveinson. She is survived by her son David; her daughter Dianne; her grandchildren, Angie Rocke (Peter), Rick Cowan, Trevor Robinson (Sheena) and Tara Lee Morrison (Keith); many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; her nephew and best friend John-Allan (Sully) Freestone; and numerous nieces and nephews in Nanaimo, BC.
The family would like to thank the great staff on the 5th Floor at St. Boniface Hospital for the care given to Lee.
