LAKSHMI MALLICK (LUCKY)
Born: Apr 08, 1933
Date of Passing: Nov 28, 2019Offer Condolences or Memory
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Andrew Mallick, her parents, and her siblings. Lucky will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Kiron Mallick, her daughter Tulip Mallick-Schnerch, son-in-law Henry Schnerch, their children, Jess (Liam) Taaffe and Nick Schnerch, daughter-in-law Rhonda Mallick, her children, Christa Campbell and Kelsey Neillings, Andrew's children, Ashton, Taryn and Brooke Mallick, her stepson Deb (Susan) Mallick, their daughter Mona Mallick, and numerous nieces and nephews living in Bangladesh.
Lucky was born on April 8, 1933 in Ramsil, Bangladesh. She went into nursing school at the age of 16 and worked as a nurse for 10 years. She became a head nurse in charge of a busy surgical ward, where she met her husband, Kiron, who was working there as a House Surgeon at the time. They were married on October 10, 1960. In July of 1963, she followed Kiron to London, England, and her daughter, Tulip, was born shortly after that; 15 months later, their son, Andrew, was born. They moved around the United Kingdom over the next 12 years as Kiron studied and worked in various hospitals. In 1975, they moved to Canada, and settled in Treherne, Manitoba, where Kiron worked as a family physician for 28 years. Lucky worked for Kiron part-time as his receptionist and for home care while living in Treherne. They moved to Winnipeg in 2006, and Kiron retired in 2010. Over the years, Lucky loved to garden, cook, entertain company, square dance, and in recent years, attend the Hindu temple. She loved bright colours and could be seen decked out in gold jewelry every day, complete with her favourite pink or red lipstick. Lucky and Kiron's last holiday together was five years ago, when they travelled to London, Hong Kong, India and Bangladesh with Tulip, Henry and Nick; they were grateful to have been able to reconnect with their respective families while in Bangladesh. Lucky lived her last couple of years at Seine River Retirement Residence, where she enjoyed many activities and social events. She was a feisty little lady with a bright smile and a fierce love for her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Home Care Assistance and St. Boniface Hospital (5B), and the staff of Seine River Retirement Residence for their kindness and compassionate care.
A celebration of Lucky's life will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A public viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. with the service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
